Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene Mogavero.
Hi Marlene, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My path into the world of ultrasound has been anything but linear. Before finding sonography, I worked in several different fields, always searching for a career that fit me—one that would allow me to be of service, use my natural attention to detail, and feel meaningful day to day. With the help of a career consultant, I explored multiple options and conducted informational interviews in each area. When I discovered ultrasound around 2003, I had an immediate, visceral sense that this was the right path. I’ve always been fascinated by the human body and how it functions, and sonography offered the perfect blend of science, technical skill, and human connection.
Over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals, physician offices, imaging centers, and birth centers. I found myself continually drawn back to caring for women through pregnancy. The midwifery model of care aligned closely with my own healthcare values—respect, individualized holistic support, and honoring natural birth.
When I moved back to Texas, I recognized a clear need within the midwifery community. Midwives and out-of-hospital birth centers needed high-quality, compassionate ultrasound services delivered by someone who understood their needs and could collaborate with them in a caring and professional manner. I knew I could fill that gap.
I started small three and a half years ago, working with a single birth center and building trust one client at a time. Word traveled quickly within the midwife community. They appreciated that I wasn’t just performing scans; I was partnering with them and their clients—offering clarity, reassurance, and respectful, evidence-based imaging.
Today, I run a thriving, boutique ultrasound practice serving midwives and the families they care for. I remain hands-on with clients because the heart of this work, for me, is still connection and service. I’ve grown my business by staying grounded in my values: integrity, compassion, and the firm belief that women deserve individualized, respectful care throughout pregnancy.
What began as a small idea has grown into a meaningful, steady business that allows me to support midwives, empower mothers, and contribute to safer, more informed birth experiences.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With this second ultrasound business, the road has been surprisingly smooth. By the time I opened my practice in Texas, I had years of experience, clarity about my values, and a deep understanding of the midwifery community’s needs.
My first ultrasound business in California, which I ran for 10 years, was where most of the challenges happened. The biggest struggle back then was learning to believe in myself—trusting that I had the skills, professionalism, and heart to run a successful practice. Landing my first contract was the hardest part. Once I proved to myself that I could do it, everything else began to unfold more naturally.
Those early challenges ended up being invaluable, because they gave me the confidence and foundation I needed to build my current business with far more ease.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about On-Site Mobile Ultrasound PLLC?
My business is a boutique ultrasound practice dedicated to serving midwives and the families they care for. I provide diagnostic obstetric ultrasounds in a way that honors the midwifery model of care—respectful, collaborative, evidence-based, and centered around the mom’s needs and desires.
I specialize in out-of-hospital pregnancy imaging for birth centers and midwife clients. What I’m most known for is the combination of clinical excellence and a calm, compassionate approach. I take the time to explain what I’m seeing, answer questions, and help midwives and their clients feel informed and supported throughout the imaging process. For many families, an ultrasound can feel vulnerable. My goal is always to create an environment where they feel safe, respected, and cared for.
What truly sets my practice apart is that I understand and deeply value natural birth and midwifery care. I don’t just provide ultrasound services—I work in partnership with midwives. They trust that I will communicate clearly, provide accurate and timely preliminary reports, and treat each client with kindness and professionalism.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that my business has become known for integrity, consistency, and a gentle, personalized touch. I don’t operate a high-volume imaging center; I intentionally keep my practice small and relational. Every scan matters. Every client matters.
For readers learning about my business, I want them to know that my services are built around respect, collaboration, and high standards of care. Whether it’s an early viability scan, an anatomy assessment, or a third trimester biophysical profile, my focus is always on supporting safe, informed, and positive birth experiences.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is feeling deeply connected—to my work, the people I serve, and to the life I’ve intentionally built. I’m happiest when I’m doing something meaningful, whether that’s connecting to the moms and their families through an important ultrasound or simply spending quiet time at home with my husband.
I also find joy in the small things: a calm morning, time in nature, good conversations, and moments when I feel grounded and present. And because my work is emotionally meaningful, it truly makes me happy to know I’m contributing to safer, more informed, more supported birth experiences.
Ultimately, I’m happiest when my life feels aligned—when what I’m doing matches who I am. That sense of purpose, connection, and alignment is what brings me the most joy.
