Exploring Life & Business with Natalie Ledbetter of Upgrade Labs 5th Street

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Ledbetter.

Natalie Ledbetter

Hi Natalie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a nurse anesthetist, life coach, and doctor of Chinese medicine. Years ago, when I was doing 24-hour shifts in my anesthesia career, I had severe migraines and heart palpitations. My doctors couldn’t figure out why and couldn’t help except for solid meds for the migraines. Our daughter was having severe GI problems as well. At this time, my husband and I started looking into alternative medicine and other ways to help with my daughter’s health issues and mine. This exploration led us to discover alternative medicine, functional medicine, and eventually, what became termed biohacking. Our lives have been transformed with just a few changes to our diet and lifestyle, mindset work, and using a few modalities, such as light therapy and sauna use. We became passionate about sharing our knowledge with others. We decided to open a facility to give our community access to the unique technologies we use at home. We discovered that Dave Asprey was starting a biohacking franchise. We are friends with Dave and respect his work and what he has done to bring biohacking to the world. After looking deeply into his franchise model, we decided this was exactly how we wanted to serve our community. We signed on to bring at least three Upgrade Labs facilities to the Austin, Texas, area. We are excited to share the tips and technologies that have wholly improved and changed our lives.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a challenging road. After we decided to become an Upgrade Labs Franchise, we had some financial challenges that caused us to withdraw our application. We made some changes and were able to reapply to become franchisees a year later. Once we signed the paperwork and began the process, we decided to be open within about nine months. After finding the location where we wanted to open our first facility, it took longer than expected to get the lease term acceptable to all parties. Once we signed the lease and construction began, multiple things were discovered that required extra effort, extra time, and much more significant expense than was initially expected. We are now on track to open in April, and things are going well.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My husband, business partner, and I are excited to bring Upgrade Labs to our Austin community. Billy is an allopathic physician who has developed a passion for functional medicine. I am a nurse anesthetist and a Chinese medicine doctor, and I am still practicing anesthesia part-time. We are passionate about health, wellness, and vitality and plan to live to be 120 in our pursuit of health, wellness, vitality, and longevity. We have discovered many herbs, supplements, dietary changes, technologies, and mindset tweaks that help toward these goals. The founder of Upgrade Labs, Dave Asprey, started his journey to find his health and wellness years ago. During his journey, he spent millions of dollars trying to get his health dialed in and discovered many tools and technologies that have helped him achieve his goals. Upgrade Labs is a high-tech facility incorporating recovery and fitness technologies and brain training. This will be a one-stop shop for health, wellness, and vitality. One of the best things about Upgrade Labs is that Dave designed it to help people work smarter, not harder.

All of our technologies are designed to save people time to reach their health and wellness goals, and as little as an hour a week with our AI adaptive bike, cardiovascular fitness can be done in 15 minutes a week instead of hours. Our muscular-skeletal workout is 94% more efficient than lifting weights in the gym. We have a whole-body lymphatic detox, a massage device, a red bed, cryotherapy, an oxygen trainer, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, and more. Our BioHacker techs will be trained to help our members achieve their health and wellness goals efficiently, effectively, and in minimal time. My husband and I are in our 50s, and we both have more vitality and energy now than we did in an hour, 30s, and 40s. Our body composition is better, and we are happier with our physique and fitness levels. We are so excited to help the members of our community achieve their health, wellness, and vitality goals so they can live their best lives.

We’d love to hear about your fond memories from growing up.
In high school, we lived off of Matagorda Bay, and my dad fixed up an old boat. On the weekends, we would go out on the boat, fish, and check out different islands off the coast. Once, we landed on an island that was a state park. A man there lived on the island and took care of it. We had problems with the boat’s engine, and he invited us to stay with him. He had a home with a room full of bunk beds. We stayed on the island and cooked fish over a campfire, and he had a box full of firecrackers. We lit the fireworks, and it was such a fantastic time being on the beach near the water and in nature. And the adventure of meeting a stranger who became a friend was charming. The next day, the Coast Guard came, and we fixed the boat; after breakfasting with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, we could leave the island and return home.
