Exploring Life & Business with Nest Infant Support of Nest Infant Support

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nest Infant Support.

Hi Nest Infant Support, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We’re both licensed speech-language pathologists who began our careers completing clinical fellowships focused on pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders. For most of our professional lives, we worked within pediatric hospital systems, supporting children across outpatient, acute care, critical care, and specialty clinic settings.
Like many healthcare providers, we eventually experienced burnout and decided to pause and reevaluate what we wanted our careers—and our lives—to look like. During that time, we realized that our passion for helping children and families navigate feeding challenges was still as strong as ever. We started brainstorming how we could bring more accessible, family-centered support into our communities while also creating a healthier work-life balance for ourselves.
What began as a half-joking “what if?” between friends slowly evolved into a full business plan. After a year filled with shared notes, voice memos, and countless planning sessions, we officially launched Nest in November 2024.
We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in our first year. We’ve hosted more than a dozen community classes, supported numerous families through their feeding journeys, appeared on a podcast, and were honored to receive the Austin Birth Awards’ “Best in Speech Therapy.”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. As speech-language pathologists, we weren’t trained in the skills needed to start or run a business, so there was a steep learning curve. We’re incredibly fortunate that friends and family stepped in with everything from marketing guidance to tax help to website design—truly anything we needed, someone showed up.
We often say that building Nest has restored our faith in humanity. This journey has shown us just how powerful and essential community support really is, and we’re deeply grateful for the people who have helped us get here.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What sets us apart is our depth of training and experience in pediatric feeding disorders. We both spent many years working within pediatric hospital systems, where we cared for children with a wide range of feeding challenges across intensive care units, acute care, outpatient services, and specialty clinics such as GI and tracheostomy clinics. We also have advanced training in performing modified barium swallow studies, which gives us a more comprehensive understanding of swallowing function.
Our approach goes far beyond the basics. We evaluate every system that can influence feeding—including neurologic, gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiac, and sensory factors—and we collaborate closely with each child’s medical team to ensure coordinated, holistic care. Because of this background, we’re able to confidently support families managing dysphagia, guiding tube-weaning, and navigating complex, multifactorial feeding concerns.
What we’re most proud of is the level of care we provide—and the fact that we can offer it right in a family’s home. Not only is this more comfortable and convenient for parents and children, but we consistently see greater progress when therapy happens in the environment where children eat, play, and feel most at ease. We’re equally proud of our commitment to inclusivity: we meet families exactly where they are, supporting every feeding path—breast, bottle, pumped, combination, tube feeding, or otherwise—with empathy and without judgment.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
From day one of launching Nest, we were overwhelmed by the warmth and generosity of our Austin community. The perinatal community embraced us immediately. Doulas, pelvic floor physical therapists, sleep consultants, yoga studios, and fellow therapy practices championed our mission before we had even fully found our footing. We feel incredibly fortunate to build a practice in a city so committed to expanding access to compassionate care for its families. Outside of our work, we love enjoying Austin’s eats and drinks, parks and outdoor spaces, and music!
As for what we don’t like about Austin, that list is short. Maggie is a proud University of Texas alum who has called Austin home for more than a decade. Laura moved to Austin in 2020, purchased her first home, and has been growing her family here with her partner— two very adorable pups—ever since. If we had to choose one thing, it would unanimously be the traffic. We love watching Austin grow; we just wish the highways would grow along with it.
