Today we’d like to introduce you to Or Yochanan.
Hi Or, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Or Yochanan. I live in Austin, Texas, and invest in real estate properties for long and short-term rentals. I hold a real estate license and am the CEO of The Investory – an end-to-end real estate service. In addition, I have a YouTube channel where I share the knowledge I have accumulated over the years.
My professional background is in software engineering, working for big companies like Amazon and Qualcomm and small start-ups like Annapurna Labs and Armis. I graduated from the Technion (Israel’s MIT) and learned to take a complex problem and break it down into simpler, smaller problems. Before that, I served as a commander and technical expert in the Navy. I am an enthusiast for aggregating knowledge, deep dives, and optimization – where my passion for writing content originates. If I’ve already researched and learned, it’s a shame that my efforts go to waste.
When I started looking into real estate investments, I realized there are huge knowledge gaps in this field that some people are happy to exploit. I spent time, learned the field in depth, and realized that Austin is perfect for “lazy” investors like me (not looking for risk). I started investing in properties, and shortly after that, people found me through my online persona and asked me to provide them with a “real estate crash course,” as I had done in the mortgage and relocation fields. One thing led to another, and I found myself enjoying more from my real estate “side hustle” more than my actual engineering career – so I started my company, and today I’m a top producer in Austin – exceeding $130,000,000 of volume in my very two years holding a license. It’s likely unprecedented. I am not a salesperson. I am a data-driven individual. I’m too self-aware to enjoy referring to my performance, while my passion for data excites me to refer to it, given how out of the norm it is. How exactly does an Israeli software engineer without a network and marketing platforms dominate one of the hottest technology territories in the US in his first year in the industry?
That’s my story, and I’d be happy to share it.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building a business while dealing with various engagements has been challenging, especially as the market turned amidst the journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
My business revolves around an end-to-end engagement – starting from education, through deal tracking, with inspection reviews by our operation department that can swoop in after closing and renovate/repair the property per the client’s requests. For investors, we have a leasing and maintenance department. Everything is being done in-house, and the services are offered at a cost since they add value to our clients and get them excited about the business – so they’ll spread the word around.
Let’s end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
Shedding light on everything my clients are oblivious to, leveraging my experience to shield them from mistakes. That’s what I wish I had gotten when I was a client.
