Exploring Life & Business with Paige Bailey of Shady Grove Nursery and Landscape Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Bailey

Hi Paige, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The short version of the story is that I was a teen mom who graduated from alternative school, went to beauty school, then decided to get a degree in education. My husband has always pushed me to go for it and follow my dreams. My dreams have led me to opening the plant nursery now. My dream for it is to become a place to learn about nature and how we can help ourselves by being able to grow real food to nourish our bodies the way God intended us to, as well as planting things that are good for our region to help the species of animals that we already have here.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I always like to say that I choose the alternative way to do things. The road has not been smooth, but I am forever grateful for the things that I learned along the bumpy road and will always use my experiences to help guide others on their roads.

We’ve been impressed with Shady Grove Nursery and Landscape Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am currently finishing out a teaching contract. I bought the contents of a well established plant nursery and moved it to my house. We are just starting up and am trying to specialize in herbs, native plants and vegetables. I think that what sets me apart from others is my ability to make connections with other people and build relationships with them. I am most proud of the relationships I have already formed and how many people have come back to me, even with my limited start up hours. I hope to soon be offering more products to promote a healthy life style to help people feel better.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I am just breaking into this industry so I have not found a mentor yet. My networking has been with greenhouses where I order plants from and chatting with them about what sells and how to start my own seedlings in my greenhouse.
