Exploring Life & Business with Shannon Martin of Hemline

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Martin.

Hi Shannon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working for Hemline while in college at LSU. After college, I took a job with Dillards in Little Rock, AR. I quickly realized the corporate world wasn’t for me and moved to Houston. I then began managing Hemline Rice Village and Hemline River Oaks. Over the course of three years, I realized this is what I wanted to do for my career and I franchised my first location in CityCentre in 2017. Three years later, I franchised another location and opened it in the Heights area. Now here we are two years later and I just opened my third location off Woodway and Voss.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Opening any business has its ups and downs. After opening Heights three days before the world shut down, I thought if we can get through this, we can get through anything! I also became a mother in 2021 which is challenging in itself. Creating a healthy work/life balance is one of my biggest accomplishments!

As you know, we’re big fans of Hemline. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Hemline is a women’s clothing franchise boutique based out of New Orleans, LA. We currently have 31 locations across the southeast and are continuing to expand. Each of our locations cater to the areas around them and their client’s needs. We are most known for our customer service and unique pieces in store.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that Houston has such a diverse culture and there is always something to do! The traffic never dies down and it takes you 20 min to get anywhere!
