Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Reis.
Hi Stacy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Jason has always loved quick service restaurants. Early in his career, he was a restaurant manager before moving to Austin, TX. He joined P.Terry’s and led all store operations as they grew from 3 stores to 13 stores, making an impact on the P.Terry’s story and growth trajectory during his tenure.
Stacy has always loved desserts and has been a home baker since she was young. She enjoys visiting local favorites when traveling and trying new places around Austin.
When an opportunity arose to partner with another local bakery, between Jason’s skills and Stacy’s passion, it only made sense to make the leap and open a partner store! In the last year, Rise Coffee & Bakery was formed when we branched out on our own and become an independent bakery and coffee house!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a business always comes with challenges – it’s not a question of if you’ll face them, but when you’ll face them. It has felt like every step along the way has meet us with adversity and unexpected challenges. We thought it would take us about 6-12 months to open, once we made the decision to go for it. Between stalls in the lease agreement to challenges with building permitting, to build out constraints, it took 28 months from the time we committed to the time we opened our doors. It was a long, frustrating process.
We’ve been open for just over 18 months and have continued to face unexpected challenges. It’s safe to say that what we thought we signed up for and where we are today are two completely different paths. It has challenged us as business owners and as partners to each other. Family business isn’t for the faint of heart and we feel very blessed have each other to lean on as we navigate new challenges that come our way and figure out the best path forward!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are an independently owned local coffee shop and bakery. We bake fresh every day and provide a rotating menu of cupcakes. We offer full coffee service as well as breakfast, brownies, made-to-order lemonade, and catering.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We love the food scene in Austin. There are so many local places to get great food, all over the city.
One of the challenges to living in a place that everyone loves is the growing population and the infrastructure that cannot keep up with growth. In the 20+ years that we’ve been in Austin, we’ve seen so many changes and understand why people want to be in Austin!
