Exploring Life & Business with Taylor Theriot of TaylorBeth Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Theriot.

Hi Taylor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I took a photography class sophomore year of high school and that’s kind of what started my interest in photography. My parents got me my first camera when I turned 18, but I didn’t really use it much until March of 2020. I really don’t know why I thought the start of COVID was the perfect time to start a business, but I did it! I got one of my roommates at the time to model for me and I spent about a day learning how to edit and thinking of business names. From there, I started booking very cheap shoots just to get my name out there and to build up my portfolio. I kept building my business and booking shoots and just learning more and more about photography!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say it hasn’t been the smoothest road. It’s hard to start a business in a saturated market during a pandemic and trying to figure out what makes you stand out. Honestly, the biggest struggle I’ve had is learning to balance my photography business with my full-time job. I’m a program director at a summer camp in Wimberley, TX which has the weirdest hours!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
TaylorBeth Photography is basically what I put all my extra energy and time in. I specialize in senior portraits, but I would love to expand to couples and families! I would say my clients know me as a true to color photographer because I try to capture the true beauty of my clients and their surroundings. I don’t have the biggest Instagram following, but I am proud of what engagements I have gotten and having the reputation of a photographer that is good but still reasonable price-wise. When starting TaylorBeth Photography, I wanted to make sure that I gave my clients a good bang for their buck! I wanted to be able to be affordable while delivering high-quality images because graduation is such a huge milestone that everyone should be able to remember!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I use honeybook almost every day! It helps me keep track of contracts, invoices, bookings, and so much more. I also use Instagram and Pinterest all the time for inspiration and as a way to connect with clients! On a nonprofessional note, I listen to the CrimeJunkie Podcast all the time when I’m driving to photoshoots or editing! I highly recommend it if you’re a true crime fan like I am!
