Exploring Life & Business with Tom Gehring of Gehring Law PC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tom Gehring.

Hi Tom , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am an attorney and have been practicing law since 1995. I began working in the Houston/Gulf Coast area (Harris County; Galveston County; Brazoria County; etc.). I have worked doing injury cases where I have helped injured folks get compensation for injuries they suffered because of another’s negligence/recklessness. For the last 22+ years, I have had my own firm (Gehring Law PC) and prior to that I worked for different law firms around the Houston area. I moved back to Austin (I say “back” because my wife and I went to UT-Austin) in 2008. My practice is primarily around the Central Texas area, but I have handled cases all over the state.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely many “ups and downs”……when I first opened my own firm office in 2004, I had just a few cases and had to build things from the ground up. It took about 2-3 years before things started to settle in and get “less challenging” (I say that because it never gets “easy”, but things become easier to navigate (lots of lessons learned by trial and error….).

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am an attorney and specialize in handling all types of personal injury cases. I work 100% on the “plaintiff” side, meaning I represent individuals who have been injured in some way. I have been a practicing attorney since 1995 and have had my own office/firm since 2004. I am most proud of the relationships I have built over the years with client and their families as evidenced by many calls I get years later from former clients asking if I can help them again or a friend/family member. Business wise, I handle very few cases so that allows me to put maximum time; effort and investment into each case and get to know my clients very well.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
So many, but I learned early on that being fanatically prepared is very key (to many things). I also realized that if you do three simple things (no matter what type of business you have), you can do well and be successful: (1) treat people well; (2) work really hard; and (3) be on time. I learned it wasn’t rocket science to be successful, but it took intention.
