Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Kracht.
Hi Zach, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My photography journey started when I was in high school. I was taking a vacation with my family and I got the opportunity to use the family DSLR while in Utah. I really enjoyed taking pictures of all the landscapes and sharing them with my friends on Facebook when I got back home. I continued this process of shooting landscapes on family vacation and joined my school yearbook. I decided I wanted to attend college closer to a nature and a place that had a photography program so I chose Appalachian State University in North Carolina. While in college, I honed my craft with commercial photography and picked up a job working for a local sports photographer. Every weekend I would travel to youth sporting events. After four years, I graduated with a degree in commercial photography and moved to Austin Tx to get immersed in to the industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road or a clear one. I have changed my path a few times. When I moved to Austin, I did not know many people here, I started by networking every single day and did not see much traction until 6-8 months of living in Austin. I had to move back to North Carolina for four months to make things work, but I learned so much those four months and it totally changed my business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Photomules LLC?
Photomules is a nationwide youth sports photography company. We shoot team and individual photos at the largest youth sporting tournaments in the United States. Our process is shooting, editing, printing, sales, and delivery all within an hour at large scale events. We cover some soccer tournaments with over 500 teams a weekend and provide our onsite printing and framing to all teams at the event. We are different from other companies because we deliver our products same day on site while other companies ship their prints weeks after the events. I am proud of the growth we are experiencing in our industry, building lasting relationships with our tournament partners for years to come.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Austin is how much nature is available in the various parks and greenbelts. I spend most afternoons when I am not working outside. The food scene is spectacular as well. My least favorite part about living in Austin personally is how far away mountains are for winter sports.
