Today we’d like to introduce you to Alondra Gomez.
Hi Alondra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My passion for hair and makeup started my junior year at Leander High School, when I took their cosmetology course. After high school, I followed my passion as a makeup artist. I did this at the same time as I established a career as a paralegal (specializing in Criminal and Immigration Law). For the past 13 years, makeup has always been a weekend job. But, about a year and a half ago, I decided to take a huge step and let go of my career as a paralegal and focus on what I love to do, which has always been hair and makeup. I have been so lucky to meet great people in this industry along the way that have helped this transition to be a little at ease. I now have my own salon: Monarch; Hair, Face and Body. My goal is to be a one-stop salon where you can either come get your hair color done, a blow dry and style, a facial, massage… you name it, we have it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business during the pandemic came with its own challenges. I definitely would not say that it’s been easy. But, this past year has made me realize how much I truly love this industry. I enjoy doing makeup for all my brides and their bridal party. I love every client that sits in my chair for their hair color or extensions, and also all my nappers when getting their lashes done. I want my clients to feel like brand new people when they leave the salon. The confidence that we are able to unleash from every client that comes into our salon is very rewarding, especially during stressful times. Through everything, I really know and appreciate that I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the incredible family support that I have. They are my rock and I’m so lucky that I have them behind me in this journey.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
First and foremost, I specialize in bridal makeup. I have worked with amazing photographers in the Austin area as well as been a part of numerous runway shows. I love to enter team competitions like “Trash Makeup Over, Battle of the Salons”, etc. It’s exciting to compete alongside so many other talented artists and get to flex my creative muscles. I’ve always been big into color and cutting edge looks and these competitions and shows keep my Monarch team and I current.
What sets us apart from others at Monarch is that we truly care. Our team is made up of seasoned artists that treat our clients like family. I want all of our patrons to have a second home in our salon. Come get made over, have a glass of wine, tell us about your day, leave feeling refreshed! Our number one goal, as I said before, is to bring out your confidence with our services and our staff can really bring that home. We offer amazing deals on professional hair products, hair treatments, massages, facials, makeup applications, etc.
The future, here at Monarch, will be full of botox parties, local vendor showcases and events, and of course many… MANY blowouts!
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I definitely learned to be more patient and to try and live more in the present when possible. When we can, we should all spend more time with our loved ones and be more understanding towards others.
