Hidden Gems: Meet Brady Bean of Beanyology

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brady Bean.

Brady Bean

Hi Brady, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from Garden City, Kansas, I was a coach’s son, and football, baseball, and sports were always my passion. Formerly a 2-time All-State Linebacker in Kansas, I played college football at Garden City Community College, where I started alongside Tyreek Hill—and graduated with an associate degree in Health and Education of Recreation. I transferred to a D2 school after 2 years, until later moving to Texas, where I played 3 years of Semi-Pro football for the San Antonio Warriors. While playing, I finished my bachelor’s degree at Texas State and joined the coaching staff as an assistant safety coach, recruiting specialist, and, later, equipment manager. I graduated from Texas State with a General Education degree specializing in Exercise Sports Science and 3 minor degrees (Health and Wellness, Coaching, Psychology). My first position out of college was as a Strength and Conditioning Intern Coach for the UTSA football program until COVID put the world on pause. During that COVID period, I was in contact with the University of Texas Longhorns Strength and Conditioning staff, and that was my next stint after coming out of COVID. I gained great experience working with players like Bijan Robinson, Sam Ehlinger, DeMarvion Overshown, Roshon Johnson, and Cam Dicker daily. I gained experience coaching in the final year of Tom Hermans’s coaching staff and the early stages of Sark’s staff.

Following my years of coaching, I pivoted to personal training at Lifetime Fitness North Austin, where I gained experience working with one-on-one and corrective exercise clients and developing and conducting my advanced big group fitness classes. This is where I evolved my understanding of business and how there is a performance and professional aspect to all successful businesses. Upon spending a few years there, I took my business on its own and officially made Beanyology happen. Beanyology was my senior project in college, which originated as a personal training and nutrition coaching business in which I would go to local gyms and train my clients at the gym for a fixed rate but would also attract more memberships to those gyms. The early months of Beanyology were highly focused on training young athletes to amplify their athleticism in their specific sports. They managed to incorporate small group training classes and instruct classes at Sweat Athletics. Fortunately, this is where the journey transformed. I met Kiyoki, the owner of Kraken Massage, in which she was looking to lease out rooms for small business wellness professionals. A few weeks before moving into my gym studio, my father and grandmother passed away. It was a very tough period mentally, as they were two of my role models in life, and I loved them more than anything. It helped motivate me upon getting into the gym studio, and I soon opened up my recovery studio (cold plunge and infrared sauna) within the facility as my gym studio. I have evolved my practice and offered a one-stop shop for all fitness aspects to eager clients trying to make real changes to their healthiest selves. I obtained my NASM Nutrition Certification to enhance my knowledge of nutrition and how it can be applied sustainably to my clients’ lives. I use my NASM Corrective Exercise Certification to help heal any clients suffering from chronic conditions who also want to get back to training. Incorporate my Training, Athletic Training, and Group Training background to diversify my reach to healthy clients eager to amplify their regular training routines or enhance their athleticism for sports. The key that separates my practice is the specific focus on mobility, recovery, and homework through Assisted Stretching, Guided Yoga, Cold Plunging, Infrared Sauna, and Online Training, built into the programming once we start working together. Health is my life, healing is my purpose, and enhancing the mind daily is what I strive to do for myself and anyone ready to commit to a healthy lifestyle that needs some guidance.

Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path, and if not, what challenges have you overcome?
No roads are smooth if they are meaningful and have pitfalls and setbacks. These enhanced my practice through trial and error and client and personal failures. Dealing with prideful thoughts and letting the ego come out and act on emotional impulses, as opposed to logical thinking, has always been a test for me in referring to personal failures. My biggest client failures have all stemmed from the same issue: accountability; being able to keep consistent accountability with my clients when I don’t see them and still know they’re staying focused on their healthy lifestyle is a daily task that is my real responsibility. About trial and error, when I started my training business, my background was coaching, and I educated athletes on how to move mechanically and fundamentally. Still, I didn’t know how to make changes for an elderly adult suffering from chronic pain but also desires and needs training implemented in their lives. This is where I had to acquire more knowledge and get the proper education, and in doing so, I have amplified my training practice.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

This bit answers many of the questions above, but what I am most proud of about my brand is that I get to represent the name my father gave me, Bean. He was my coach, mentor, role model, and, most of all, a loving father; he truly wore all the hats and taught me many tough lessons at an early age that I can see now. Mental fortitude, being able to pivot and adapt if hurdles occur, social skills are everything, being a man of your word, owning up to mistakes and doing your best to fix them, and most of all, being kind to strangers like you are to loved ones. And the “ology” part, my practices incorporate everything I love, from the weight room to athletics, group coaching, recovery (plunging), and building real relationships with my clients. What I want my readers to know is that I will never bullshit you. Plain and simple, we will start on an actual stage; I want to know what your issues are that you’re struggling with, and let’s work on them. My skill set is unique, but training is a therapy session. The best therapy you can have, I am an unbiased resource where you can share your life challenges, talk about them, express your emotions and frustrations, and then get the luxury to work them out physically. And then you get the opportunity to dive in my cold pit, really break your walls down, tear the ego down, and when you come out, you’ll have access to a natural dopamine rush that puts you in a place of peace.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is watching my dad catch a home run ball hit by Gabe Kapler at Texas Ranger’s old Stadium while holding me in his other hand. I was a little guy then, my first live baseball game.
