Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Rodriguez.
Hi Brittney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The journey to establishing my own firm has been long and winding, but not without excitement! As the proud daughter of educators, following my undergraduate studies, I was set on running for political office at the state level. My plan was to affect the change needed to more equitably compensate educators, those I feel do some of the most noble work that can be done….but as life tends to do, my best laid plans were shifted through years of legislative work with the Texas State House of Representatives, the Texas Attorney General’s office then into the world of public information distributing communications for infrastructure and roadway plans for the Texas Department of Transportation. I enjoyed swift advancement through a local PR firm where my knack for communications and community connections inspired taking the plunge as a business owner myself.
Grit + Pearl Public Relations’ beginning was far from glamorous…In fact, I recall jumping out of bed at 2am (sporting a disheveled topknot), grabbing my trusty pink laptop and immersing myself in the vision of what my little firm could be as a drafted a. rough business plan. As the sun rose the following morning, so too did my optimism for the possibilities to come. I’ve always been a firm believer in the power of intention, and equally, the importance of proceeding with gratitude and limitless openness to universal direction…I attribute the birth of my firm, the brilliant clients with whom we have the privilege of working daily, the exceptional talents of our staff and the amazing connections we’ve made in Texas, Nationally and across the globe to my inherent trust in the growing and development process….challenges and accomplishments included!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t truly believe that any entrepreneur can refer to the road to professional success as smooth. The hours can feel thankless, your plans will be dashed, your intentions will be rendered futile….and just when you think you’ve traversed it all, a world pandemic can strike–that bit wasn’t part of anyone’s business plan!
As a PR professional, I am charged with primarily proving myself as a trusted storyteller–one with an inherent gift for helping others express their own values, sentiments, and the unique passions that lay the foundation for the businesses they’ve grown, love and depend upon. As the new kid on the block, I had to work hard to prove my worthiness of trust with a new but fast-growing portfolio. Grit + Pearl PR started as a one woman show, I was overseeing all aspects of project development and the days and nights were long. Through the intense grit required to establish GPPR, I was incredibly fortunate to meet and work with the first of many clients to come. It is because of the trust and commitment of many fellow small and local businesses that I have been able to establish my own success for my firm.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Grit + Pearl Public Relations?

It’s this foundation that has helped us establish our unique and impressive network of meaningful relationships, professional contacts and clients that feel like family.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Undoubtedly, I’m a risk taker–a blessing/vice that grows stronger year after year. But I’d argue any business owner is a risk taker–to trust the gut compelling you to give business ownership a-go is a brave act, but it’s a risk, all the same. Without a doubt, the biggest risk I’ve taken was inviting others to join in on and contribute to Grit + Pearl PR’s ongoing evolution. It can feel daunting to expose your idiosyncrasies and preferences that might not make sense to other industries pros you’ve hired…. And those moments will happen, but it’s your day to day office teammates that make the growth so meaningful.
When it comes to risks, they’re inevitable–so I embrace them, always. I often find that taking off my shoes, finding a good patch of earth, reconnecting, grounding and silencing without rush is the best way to fully weigh the cost of risk. I can’t recommend it enough.
