Hidden Gems: Meet Caleb and Morgan Williamson of Neighbor Coffee & Friends

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb and Morgan Williamson.

Hi Caleb and Morgan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In the fall of 2020, we began roasting coffee for friends and family and then slowly expanded to online sales and private events. We always had a dream of owning a coffee shop, and we wanted a public facing space to meet our customers in person and share our love of coffee with them. We found the perfect coffee truck for sale and opened in April of 2021. It has been a dream come true and we have learned so much along the way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While it has been incredibly rewarding, it has not been an easy road by any means. Neither of us were formally trained in business or management, despite having experience in the coffee and service industries. We relied on the advice of experienced food truck operators to guide us through the opening and inspection process, but we also had to simultaneously learn how to solve our own problems. From finding the right generator needed to power our truck to finding a cost-effective way of sourcing our supplies, our first six months in business was one steep learning curve.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Neighbor Coffee & Friends?
We are a specialty coffee roaster serving craft coffee beverages and signature food items from our coffee truck at the 5000 Burnet food park. We invest time and energy into hand-crafting unique drink recipes and in-house bakery items. We value the homemade approach to everything we do and want others to enjoy it as well. When you visit us, you will find freshly roasted coffee, light eats such as homemade Buttermilk Biscuits with whipped honey butter and jam, along with other seasonal items such as the Bourbon Caramel Latte and Chocolate Espresso Babka.

The other half of our business model is community. We value creating a friendly atmosphere for friends and family. In addition, when you make your first purchase of coffee beans online, we send you an extra bag of coffee to give to a neighbor. We believe our city and our world would be a better place if everyone knew their neighbors.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
We feel incredibly lucky to have found success so far with this business, but we also know that our effort we put in upfront gave us the opportunities we’ve had in the first place. We were lucky enough to find the perfect truck for sale (with all the coffee equipment we needed as well) because we made the right phone calls to the right people. It’s amazing how many things seem to fall into place when you put forth the right effort to find them.
