Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Chester Sr.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey began after my NFL career was cut short due to injury. My focused turned to my four boys and I started preparing them to be elite athletes through training (football/basketball) as my boys continued to progress through youth sports I began training some of their teammates. Other parents saw the benefits of the training so I started to train small groups during the week and on the weekends. As my oldest sons entered high school, I would sit in the stands and look at the defensive line and offensive line play. It’s what we call “The Trenches” Having played in the trenches my entire football career, this would be where my focus was. Oh was I disappointed. The lack of technique that I was watching was gut-wrenching to say the lease. In 2018, I started the Nine 0 Elite Training Academy. My focus with Nine 0 Elite was to provide a platform for young Offensive and Defensive lineman to learn professional techniques and learn more about their positions through position-specific training. I started out with six athletes in 2018, and as of August 2022, our roster has grown to 84 athletes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been some obstacles. Our biggest obstacles have been field space and Mother Nature. The Texas heat can be overwhelming at times, not to mention our heavy rain seasons. We have been fortunate to have some opportunities to work out in some indoor facilities (Del Valle HS ) (HIT Athletics) to combat the weather as we look to secure our own indoor training facility in the near future. As a small business, it has been a bit of a journey finding and securing a building that we can call our own, but we believe it is definitely in the cards for us…
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Nine 0 Elite Training Academy is Central Texas #1 Position Specific Training Academy specializing in OL/DL Training. I am the lead skills enhancement trainer, along with my nephew Jordan Barrs (OL Specialist) and my Son Carlos Chester Jr ( DL /OLB specialist). We train athletes from across Texas, Louisiana and athletes as far as Canada have come to train for us. Since 2018 all our athletes have played football at the collegiate level. A testament to their hard work and trusting our process. Times have changed in the world of competitive sports, everyone is looking for that edge. Nine 0 Elite Training Academy will definitely assist you with getting that edge and separating yourself from the pack.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a bit of an introvert. My world revolved around sports. I excelled in every sport I played (football, basketball, baseball) and would take every opportunity to hone in on my craft. It wasn’t til high school that I realized that football would be my future and the easiest path to secure a scholarship to play in college.
