Today we’d like to introduce you to Elena Evans.
Hi Elena, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Sugar Land, Texas and moved to Austin the day after I turned 18 in 2012. I always knew I wanted to do hair and makeup which is crazy because I was raised with three older brothers and no sisters! So when I moved to Austin, I got accepted into the Aveda Institute, I started my cosmetology career! Ten years later, I own my own business and have my own salon suite where I do cut and color clients during the week and I am a part of multiple bridal hair & make up companies which occupies my weekends. I wouldn’t have it any other way! In my free time, I love to take my one-year-old miniature wiener dog to Zilker or grab a vanilla latte and sit at a coffee shop reading!
I am a part of a wonderful church called Red Rocks Austin where I’ve found friends that are like family.
I love cooking and drinking red wine with friends and family.
Austin has felt like home since the day I moved here and I can’t see myself anywhere else!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Transitioning to a big city by myself was definitely not easy. I struggled with anxiety and depression but through counseling and support, I have found a lot of freedom from it. It was something I had to learn to manage and not stop my plans for my future. I also did (and still do sometimes) struggle with the fear of failure especially as a business owner. I think it’s scary going out on your own and definitely not the easiest but 100% worth it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I have my own salon suite at the Marquise Salons in Oak Hill. I specialize in cut, color, and bridal hair and make up. My quiet and private room will help you destress from the day and I am always a listening ear. Whether you are blonde wanting to brighten up with a balayage or highlights or a bride who needs services for your big day, I’m your gal!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My dad definitely has helped me get into the place I am at now. I remember calling him one day and saying “dad I want to start a business” and he couldn’t have been more supportive! He is always there for me whether it be a business question or a pep talk. I couldn’t ask for a better dad!
