Hi Frederick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been baking for many years as a hobby, sharing my baked goods with friends and family or anyone willing to give them a try. A year ago I decided to apply for my first farmers market and it’s been a crazy roller coaster ride of cookies ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We’ve definitely had our moments where the road was smooth, but it also gets bumpy along the way.
A few struggles that we have to navigate is gauging how much product to make for new events that we’re attending, or how to keep our products looking visually appealing especially during the warmer seasons. It’s all about trial and error but we learn along the way.

Brown Sugar Bake Shop is a Black-Queer owned pop-up bake shop based in Austin, TX known for our organic, consciously-made gourmet cookies with unique and nostalgic flavors. From our classic chocolate chip with sea salt to our crowd favorite hot honey cornbread, our cookies never disappoint! Our cookies are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and always made with love and intention.
We do a pre-order cookie drop monthly via our Hotplate (hotplate.com/brownsugar). You’re able to create a 6-pack of our current monthly menu, and you’re able to pick up locally via our pick up partners: Parker and Scott General Store, Clover & Maven, or at Ride THe Concord.
What are your plans for the future?
We’re looking forward to baking up some fun new flavors, collaborating with more local makers, and hopefully a permanent space for Brown Sugar Bake Shop!
