Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregg Klar.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started selling Real Estate basically right out of high school. I was 19 years old and struggled to get a broker to sponsor me after completing my education to get my real estate license. I had a great Aunt that was in the business for over 40 years and at the time was the number one real estate agent in New Braunfels, TX where I am from and got my start. After meeting with her office manager, he congratulated me for completing my education and said come back in 5-10 years. No one was going to buy a house from a kid. Well, I gave my Aunt the news and the very next day she gave the office an ultimatum. Either hire my nephew or I’m walking out. Well needless to say that afternoon I got a call that they had found a desk for me and would like to welcome me to the office.
I quickly became successful and was named the rookie of the year and established myself as one of the cities top agents for the next three years. In 2001, I met my now husband and we moved to Austin in February 2001 when I joined Keller Williams Realty where I remain today.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I like to say we all fail forward. As failure shows you tried something, it didn’t work out, you learned something, became better and tried again. So, yes. I struggled at first when I first moved here. I knew no one and the only person I knew at the time was the agent who just sold me my house. So I had to build a business from the ground up. Two gay guys in their early 20’s moving to Lakeway in 2001 wasn’t exactly a hot bed opportunity either. At the time, the average age in Lakeway was late 60’s and mostly a retirement report area. If you weren’t from here, it was not very welcoming to outsiders.
But, slowly we worked hard, found opportunities and made business work. By 2004, I was very successful and in 2005 I was asked to serve on our Agent Leadership Council. It was this time I also started my team.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Selling Real Estate all over the Austin metro area for over 22 years. I’ve had great pleasure of working with some of the biggest influencers and business owners here in Austin. However, my biggest joy is helping everyday working families find their dream homes and secure their financial futures. My greatest accomplishment has been helping young families and now helping their children find their first homes. A testament to my level of service and staying in touch with my clients well beyond the time of sale.
One of the many things that set us apart is our dedication to our clients before, during and after the sale. WE strive to be our client’s real estate advisors for life. After still being in business for over two decades, seeing several recessions and times of prosperity, we understand the market and how to best navigate it during any market condition.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m definitely a risk taker. I like to say if you’re not doing something that makes you a little nervous, your living too comfortably and needs to get uncomfortable in order to grow personally or professionally.
I took a risk in 2001 when I left my hometown where I knew virtually everyone to follow love and the opportunity to build and even bigger business in Austin. It was hard at times but it ultimately paid off in a large way. The people I now have in my life are all precious to me from my friends who many are mentors, to my family and work family. I’m truly blessed. If I hadn’t taken that risk who knows where I would be today.
