Hidden Gems: Meet Isabel Meijering of Main Street Yoga Bastrop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabel Meijering.

Hi Isabel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve lived and worked in Bastrop for the past 2.5 years, and during that time, I’ve had the joy of connecting with so many incredible people—first through teaching yoga at a beloved local studio (which has since closed), and then through my acupuncture practice. When that studio shut its doors two years ago, I found myself not only missing the space but also meeting more and more amazing yoga teachers and students—people who were clearly still craving a place to come together.

It became clear to me that I wasn’t alone in this feeling. Our community was longing for a studio—a sanctuary, really. A place to land. A place where people could gather in support, exchange ideas, learn, and just be together. And one day, I thought: Why not me? Could I be one to help bring this to life?

It turns out I could be—but only because I wasn’t doing it alone. I got in contact with my old friend Kasey Ducloux, who had also worked at the old studio, and thankfully, our visions aligned. She was all in, ready to manage the space and help shape what we were building. Soon after, two more dear friends—Dacy and Heath Cameron—offered their unwavering support and stepped in as my business partners. They’re the perfect balance to my energy, and we work so well together. I feel deeply lucky to call all of them friends and collaborators.

Our location on Main Street came to us almost by magic. In early July, I happened to walk by the building, saw it sitting empty, and thought, this would be a dream for the studio. I texted my realtor, only to hear the space had already been taken off the market. Still, the space felt right. I held onto the feeling and thought, We’ll see what happens. Nothing else promising came along, and by August, the tenant who had planned to move in backed out. I immediately said, Write up the lease. Let’s go.

The rest, as they say, is history.

We opened our doors on October 11, 2024, and over the past 7 months, we’ve had the immense honor of serving this community. The most rewarding part? Hearing people tell us how the studio has changed their lives. It’s certainly changed mine—and I’m better for it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes and no! Yes—it has felt smooth in many ways because I’ve felt truly guided, deeply supported, and surrounded by the most incredible people. But also no—because I’m learning, in real time, how to run a business that’s much bigger and more complex than my acupuncture practice. And I don’t want to just run a business—I want to build something rooted in integrity, that creates real opportunities for our teachers, and that serves our community in a meaningful, heart-centered way.

We’re only seven months in, so we’re very much still in the discovery phase. I’m constantly listening, asking for feedback, and adjusting what we offer so we can meet the community where they are—and where they want to go. This whole journey is one big learning process, and honestly, I think it always will be. And that’s the exciting part.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re a yoga studio right in the heart of Bastrop, TX—and what really sets us apart is that we truly have something for everyone. Whether you’re brand new to movement or looking for a challenge, we’ve got you covered. From adaptive yoga and gentle flows to advanced vinyasa, plus specialty classes like Pilates, barre, and even hip-hop Zumba—it’s a dynamic mix, and we love offering that kind of variety to our community.

What makes it even more special? Our weekend events. Every week, our space transforms into a hub for creativity and connection. We host everything from sound healing and movement workshops to dance, yoga, and so much more. It gives our teachers—and other passionate folks in the community—a chance to share what they love, and it’s amazing to watch people light up as they discover something new. Bastrop has been craving more opportunities like this, and we’re honored to help create them.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Go meet people. Ask how they learned what they know. And then find a mentor who shares your values. If your mentor feels differently about your values than you do, it will be difficult to put their advice into action. And remember that meeting people is never a waste of time. You never know when a connection will be helpful in the future.
