Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Roye.
Hi Jeremy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Jeremy Roye is an Austin and Bali based music artist and coach dedicated to empowering creatives worldwide to make their best music. As an accomplished artist himself, with over 2 million social video views, 60,000 streams (“Believe in You”), signing to a label, multiple album releases, national touring under his belt, and performing on television, and Jeremy is the rare music coach who is actually walking the walk as an artist.

He is also a winner of the $10,000 City of Austin Live Music Grant, recently finished a $20,000 Kickstarter campaign, and is a part of renowned licensing catalogs such as Soundsync Music, IndieFlow, and ZYX Music label. His “Daniel Johnston” sampled-track “True Love Will Find You in the End” was featured on HI HOW ARE YOU DAY’s livestream across college campuses nationwide in support of mental health awareness, and his last album was praised by KUTX 98.9’s Song-of-the-Day as a “lovechild between Bon Iver and Sylvan Esso”.
After co-founding the Austin Music Video Fest and partnering with artists like OK GO, Neon Indian, The Flaming Lips, and, yes, even Beyonce, Jeremy re-focused his dedication on his longest passion: music and coaching. He has received countless 5-star Google reviews from Austin to Asia, including as a guest mentor for the Austin Music Foundation.
His 3-tier system – SongCraft, ProductionProcess, and ArtisticSuperpowers – provides songwriter / producers with the necessary tools to elevate and release their music with an impact.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My greatest struggle was finishing and releasing music.
Too many Youtube tutorials, demos collecting dust, and not enough focus and guidance to confidently polish and release my music, I often felt overcome by anxiety and the occasional depression.
I got away from music after launching the Austin Music Video Festival and an event agency. After 6 wild years, I decided to return to my greatest passion and create a life around music.
Having a daughter who’s also a budding musician, I was inspired by her refocus on my craft from a place of service (instead of ego) to show her and others that we can live an inspired creative life doing the things we love with the people we love.
This approach and has led to many making my best music, videos, winning a a 5-figure city grant, having dozens of music clients and collaborators, and recently completing a $20,000 Kickstarter to fund my next two albums: Makes Waves + Be Love.
We’ve been impressed with MusicIsland.co, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Releasing my own music has created opportunities to connect with other musicians, fans, friends, and support other artists. Dream-life stuff!
Both in the studio and virtually, I have helped dozens of artists from Austin to Bali write and produce their first songs, either from voice memo to demo, or from scratch to Spotify. It’s remarkable and such a positive and beautiful thing to be a part of the process and empower artists to create and share their talents and work.
In fact, one artist named Cam called me up and asked if I could help him write and produce four songs in the style of Odesza (some of the best producers in the world!!) in honor of his father’s passing. Oh, and by the way, we only had 3 weeks until his late-father’s birthday. And he’d never made music before (he was a DJ).
It was such an inspiring testament of love but a daunting task. I said ‘yes’ of course!
Not only did he finish his album, but it’s as beautiful as anything I’ve been a part of. It was a total honor to celebrate his father and it felt so cool when he sent me videos of people dancing to his new music while he dj’ed a sun-soaked boat party.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Top 3 pro-tips to make your best music
1. Find Mentors – It’s said that we’re the average of our 5 closest friends, so find the company of an artist a few years ahead of you, that’s reached some level of success that you desire, and buy them some tacos so you you can talk to them and ask them smart questions.
2. Find listeners – It could be a bandmate, a music coach, or even your cousin… ask for feedback and keep learning. If people don’t stomp their foot or nod their head to your music, keep working!
3. Find the muse – Some wait for inspiration… sometimes years. As author Steven Pressfield said in the incredible kick-in-the -pants-kinda-read, War of Art: show up at the desk everyday so the muse knows where to find you.
And if you really love it, just keep makin’ music!
