Hidden Gems: Meet Jessica Stanley and Amy Arnold of Card My Yard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Stanley and Amy Arnold, the founders of Card My Yard. They share their story with us below:

We started Card My Yard in 2014 in Austin, Texas, to spread joy and create a positive impact in communities nationwide.

That Halloween, we were looking for a fun way to celebrate with our children and neighbors. We had seen smaller versions of yard signs before, but knew we could do something bigger and better for our friends and neighbors. The first yard sign we created in 2014 was a simple three-letter word, ‘BOO.’ Soon after that, neighbors and friends began asking us for yard cards to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries.

We made a commitment to say “yes” to everything we could. By 2017, the company had grown so much in volume and interest we knew that in order to continue reaching new markets, we would need to take the company to the next level and franchise.

Card My Yard now includes nearly 500 franchises in 46 states and brings in 3,000 system-wide orders every week.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Shortly after starting Card My Yard, our husbands had career changes. One of our husbands worked for a family company in the watch business that wasn’t viable anymore (with the introduction of Apple watches) and the other was laid off.

Both of our families needed a new plan. Luckily, around the same time, Card My Yard started quickly gaining momentum. The company was expanding to new markets and we realized we would need additional people on board to help manage the growth. Our husbands joined the company and Card My Yard turned into a true family business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Catering to special occasions, events and milestones, Card My Yard rents personalized yard greeting signs. Once an order is placed, a Card My Yard franchise owner designs the greeting and works to seamlessly deliver and set up at the specified time and location.

Card My Yard sets itself apart from competitors with its innovative, streamlined ordering system. Customers can place an order online and send a greeting to someone they care about in another city or state that has a Card My Yard franchise. Our goal was to make online ordering so easy that a busy parent could book a card for their kid while multitasking.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Austin is where we started our business because we love the community here so much. We appreciate the Texas values of helping others and celebrating their achievements.

Austin’s limestone can make carding some yards difficult. Luckily, we recently introduced new products that allow us to set up signs on all kinds of surfaces, lawn or no lawn!

Pricing:

  • Austin area franchise owners offer packages starting at $80 for different types of greetings or unique messages.
