Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Adams
Hi Jordan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My event career started back in high school when I took an interior design class. I loved everything about it—from picking out furniture and fabrics, to cutting out images from magazines, to putting together design boards. When I got to college, I initially wanted to pursue interior design, but it felt a bit overwhelming, and I wasn’t sure I had the confidence to go for it. So, I decided to shift gears and study Public Relations and Advertising instead, knowing that events were still my ultimate goal. It turned out to be the right choice—I thrived in my courses and found a new passion for PR and event planning.
As senior year approached, it was time to find an internship. I was working as a hostess and helping with marketing at Mama Fu’s Asian House when my manager recognized my potential and asked where I wanted to take my career. He introduced me to a few key people in the industry, who encouraged me to join the International Live Events Association (ILEA). The timing was perfect—the president of ILEA at the time happened to be the owner of the company I had applied to intern with. I started attending ILEA events, which opened the door to two internships, two full-time roles, and some incredibly valuable connections.
One of those connections led me to my future business partner, David, and together we eventually started our own company. It’s been an exciting journey, from my early love of design to finding my place in the event industry and building a business from the ground up.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but looking back, I wouldn’t change anything about the journey. One of the biggest challenges was starting my own business while working multiple part-time jobs to make ends meet. In the early days, there were countless late nights and weekends spent working on our business while still trying to keep up with my other jobs. Balancing the demands of both was tough—there were moments when it felt like there just weren’t enough hours in the day.
Building a business from the ground up while still working for other companies tested my limits. It was exhausting, and there were times when I wondered if I could really handle it all. But those early struggles taught me a lot about time management, persistence, and what it really takes to run a business. I learned how to prioritize what was most important, how to make the most of every moment, and how to handle the stress that comes with wearing multiple hats.
The other big challenge came when I transitioned from working for others to running my own business. It’s a huge jump, and there’s a lot of uncertainty in the beginning. You face things like building a brand from scratch, managing finances, and navigating the complexities of decision-making; it is all on you! But those challenges also brought a lot of growth. The key has been learning to embrace the ups and downs, staying adaptable, and surrounding myself with a strong support system.
Speaking of adaptability, the pandemic of 2020 was undoubtedly our biggest challenge. Like so many others in our industry, we faced the reality of running a business built around in-person events when everything came to a halt. To stay afloat, we had to quickly pivot to virtual events—a format we knew little about at the time. Thankfully, we had incredible support from our vendor partners, which helped us navigate the learning curve and successfully make the transition. While we’re hopeful we never have to go back to virtual events, it’s a skill we’ve gained and one that’s now part of our toolkit.
So while the road hasn’t always been easy, each obstacle has been an opportunity to learn, grow, and ultimately get to where I am today.
