Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Sherman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started The Practical Prep as a hobby while I was a full-time elementary school teacher. I was struggling to prepare healthy meals for myself every day with the little time that I had. I started meal prepping to save time throughout the week. It also took the stress out of eating healthy. My coworkers would always ask me where I got my meals, so I decided to start documenting them on Instagram. I completed my first Whole30 program in 2014 and fell in love with it. It helped me have a healthier relationship with food and understanding how food works with my body. I began helping others through the program casually, then became a certified coach in 2019.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was very challenging to start a business while also having a full-time job- not to mention trying to maintain a social life and healthy lifestyle! I would often go back and forth between being very motivated to not working on my business for months. I finally had to make a commitment to myself to go all in. Working for yourself is not easy, but it is so rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in helping busy people learn how to cook healthy, delicious meals. My approach is all about how to make a healthy lifestyle work for you as easily as possible. I do this currently through Health Coaching and Whole30 Coaching. Soon, I will be offering a four weeks meal plan with step by step instructions, grocery lists, and many other resources.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Austin is a great city to be active and healthy. There are so many amazing fitness studios, classes, and activities to help you be excited about moving your body and working out. I also love all of the options for healthier, real foods when dining out and grocery shopping. I am sad to see some of the old local spots disappear though, and be replaced by chains. Gotta keep Austin weird.
