Hidden Gems: Meet Kelsi Lewis of Glow Dental Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsi Lewis.

Hi Kelsi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I decided to become a dentist when I was six years old, so I grew up knowing what I wanted to do. I began shadowing dentists/oral surgeons/ orthodontists pretty early on as much as I could. I started playing volleyball in 7th grade and immediately fell in love with the sport. So much so that I played in college for two years until I had to “retire” from it from a sprained rotator cuff and some torn ligaments. The injury was going to require me to have a pretty invasive surgery that could potentially interfere with my goal of becoming a dentist, so I chose to not have the surgery and decided to end my college volleyball career. Being a business major in college, I had to take additional pre-requisites in order to apply to dental school in 2012. I applied for dental school in the spring of 2012 and was accepted my first try at the dental school in Houston, TX to begin the road to my dream in Fall of 2013. Dental school is a long, tough four years and when it was finally over my husband and I decided to move to Austin, TX. After several years of working for other doctors, I decided it was time to finally have my own practice. I want my patients to feel comfortable and to feel like they are family when they are here. We go the extra mile for each patient at each visit in order for them to feel comfortable at the office. We look forward to continuing to serve the Austin community!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been the smoothest road; however, my road was not as tough as some. One of the biggest struggles along the way would be my diagnosis of depression and anxiety while I was in dental school. Depression/Anxiety isn’t a topic that many people like to talk about or acknowledge, but it’s definitely something that should have more awareness. Going through dental school and life in general is already a struggle, but add depression/anxiety on top of that and it just makes things way worse. You are constantly worrying about the “what-ifs” and there’s never a moment when you aren’t worried about something. Having an amazing family and support system is the biggest help of getting me through those struggles even to this day.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
