Today we’d like to introduce you to M. Duane Miller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I attended the University of Texas at Austin on a football scholarship from 1986-1990, and received a BA in History in 1990.
I was a Texas Longhorn Football starter, and letterman from 1987 to 1990 and served as a co-captain of the 1990 Southwest Conference Championship team.
I appeared in 42 games from 1987 to 1991, starting in 34 of those including the Bluebonnet Bowl (1987) and Cotton Bowl (1991).
I was named to the University of Texas Athletic Director’s Honor Roll four semesters, and to the Texas Football preseason second team All Southwest Conference Team in 1990.
I was a National Football League free agent signee (Dallas Cowboys) in 1991.
I was a Texas High School football coach, and a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association from 1992-1998.
I graduated from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (now Texas A&M University School of Law) in 2003. I was licensed as a Texas Attorney and Counselor at Law by the Supreme Court of Texas in 2004.
I started the Law Office of M. Duane Miller in November, 2004.
I am a member of the Irving Independent School District Athletic Hall of Fame (Class of 2017),
I combine more than twenty-one (21) years as a licensed Texas attorney with a unique, inside perspective of the business of athletics. I am an advocate and protector of Texas student-athletes.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am extremely fortunate (and grateful) that I have had wonderful mentors and supporters throughout my career. To experience any level of success means to experience struggles. However, I am a life-long learner who enjoys new challenges, and thrives on serving others.
As you know, we’re big fans of M. Duane Miller: The Texas NIL Lawyer. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
M. Duane Miller is the Texas NIL Lawyer, a Texas attorney and advocate for Texas student-athletes.
I am committed to protecting the rights of Texas student-athletes, especially the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness (“NIL”).
I combine more than twenty-one (21) years as a licensed Texas attorney with a unique, inside perspective of the business of collegiate athletics.
I am an advocate and protector of Texas student-athletes.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Dozens of outstanding mentors through the years.
Specifically, my spouse, Lori, helped me start the firm in 2004.
She is my legal secretary, office manager, etc. and deserves most of the credit for the firm’s success.
