Hi Margaret, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The idea for the Howdy Baby Box came to me during the COVID lockdown in 2020. We’d all had a difficult start to the year. — My son was restless from having been stuck at home for months, my fiancé was worried about losing his job, and I had recently been laid off from my full-time position as well. We were in dire need of some quality time together, so I started looking for activities that we could do as a family. I came across so many different self-care and wellness products, but nothing that was designed exclusively for families to enjoy together.
I thought to myself… Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a subscription box that made it easier for families to spend time together by introducing them to different products from small businesses that are also likely struggling as a result of the pandemic? — And so the Howdy Baby Box was born.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a subscription business is a roller coaster ride full of ups and downs. One of the biggest challenges we immediately faced was determining product sourcing. When deciding which products to include in our boxes, we’ve had to learn to consider practical factors like relevance, cost, and size, as well as whether or not our subscribers would actually like what we chose. But, in the end, these obstacles taught us to pivot and think outside the box because unexpected costs and difficult-to-predict challenges do pop up from time to time.

The Howdy Baby box is a monthly mommy and me subscription box for children ages newborn to six years old that features a unique selection of items for you and your child to explore together!
Choose from the Essential or Deluxe subscription box or a one-time gift box to receive a variety of family-friendly products customized to your child’s age and developmental stage, as well as something special for mom in each box! All products featured are ethically made by women-owned businesses and independent makers.
We are a family-owned business based out of East Austin and we’re proud to provide our customers and their families with safe, ethically made products that have a positive impact on both the community and the environment.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
We believe that the only way to do business is to build trust with our customers and our community. Our company’s success is dependent on us being open and honest about our products and pricing, as well as communicating openly about our business practices.
