Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Fine.
Hi Megan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story really begins about ten years ago when I had moved out of my mom’s house determined to make my own money and live on my own, now knowing anything about life at that point. Before I started nursing school, I remember taking as many art classes as possible because they were so fulfilling. I couldn’t believe that I could get college credits for art-related subjects. I started with painting and then I took a life drawing class that started to curve my attention to the perfection of imperfect humanity. This is where I really started to indulge in drawing and sketching portraits. I always found myself wanting to draw beautiful people and lock myself away by myself to work on art projects. When I started nursing school, I really lost touch with my creative side. I did buy a camera while I was in Nursing school but never really went anywhere with it because I was too busy studying and working full time.
Once I graduated and left a relationship that was not serving me, I started taking photos of my best friend for her online marketing business. This is when I really got serious about using this skill for connection and for cultivating abundance. My best friend sat me down and we made a business plan where I got to decide who it was that I wanted to photograph. On my list of ideal clients I wrote; small business owners, yogis, entrepreneurs, and shy people. I really wanted people that did not have as much access to photo sessions and people that maybe never have had a photo where they truly felt beautiful. For them to have a chance to have photos that they could cherish forever. This has been my greatest gift as a photographer, to see that moment when people see their photos and beam with happiness of their own beauty or power. Now, I am constantly growing and getting to meet new clients just through genuine connections. In addition to word of mouth growth, I have also been taking photos of people’s disabled family members and that has been a whole new realm of learning. What a gift it has been to work with different types of people. I think the ability to bring comfort to people comes from my nursing skills. Seeing people in their hardest moments has given me the chance to encourage people out of their shells, despite any limitations they think they have.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This path has not been easy. Prior to nursing school and starting my own business, I struggled with addiction. This was a huge stunt to my growth and came with it’s own set of problems and limitations. It wasn’t until I completely cut off all of my friends fro that time that I was able to start a journey of self discovery. This all took time and patience is something that I get to practice more and more as I mature. Once I started nursing school my life was pretty much completely devoted to that and shortly after that I had a rough ending to a relationship that was full of immaturity and reaction on both sides. Once I finally had given myself space to remember who I was, that was when everything started to look up. I found my tribe, my passions outside of work, and a partner that supports everything that I do. I started my business small and just with my friends and that has always been enough. It is just an added bonus to watch my business grow, like me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Free Flow Fotography was born out of a desire to truly connect to my people and to the environment. I almost exclusively photography outdoors unless requested otherwise because nature is our most valuable architect. We get to move freely at each location and flow with how the sun is moving and where the shadows are softest. I love being able to change backdrops just by taking a few steps or by changing my angle around the subject. I also love taking photos of people that are shy. To me, everyone deserves to see themselves as a model and really connect to their highest selves. I also have really enjoyed starting to mesh my nursing background and photography by taking photos of people with disabilities, this is very new and I feel really fired up about it. I am proud of myself for just going out and doing it. I refuse to live in fear that I may not ever get anywhere with my passions. I give my whole heart to my clients and I know they feel comfortable with me and that has been a great lesson throughout these last 3-4 years with F3. I would love for the readers to know that this brand is centered around service to others. As I expand my business and grow, opening up to videography has been a huge up level and I have already been able to use these skills for offering awareness for important causes. I want to continue to use this platform for education, growth, and empowerment.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I can’t talk about giving credit without mentioning my best amiga Danielle Bryan. She reminded me that I absolutely can start a thriving abundant business and it can bring people joy. She helped me and continues to help me find organization and growth on the business side of my creative endeavors. Another huge supporter is my fiancé Bentley, he has been such a gem and takes care of everything when I travel for photos and leadership opportunities. He is my rock and I am so thankful for his love. My parents have also always supported my creative ideas and continue to cheer me on with all my wild dreams. Albina Rippy is another person that has guided me to major quantum leaps in my business. She helps more of the personal development but with that everything else can thrive. I am truly in gratitude for the advocates in my life that have made it possible for me to see my own potential, especially in business.
