Hidden Gems: Meet Michael Demoin of Detail Now – Taylor Ceramic Coating & Paint Correction

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Demoin.

Hi Michael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up we weren’t very well off, going from section 8 to now owning and operating my own business. And hiring my first employee. It’s been a big transformation.
After moving up in the restaurant industry, becoming a general manager. I bought a house. I started to rent out the rooms in my house and that allowed me the freedom to start my business.

I quit my full time job and started my business detailing cars. I did it mobile, in people’s driveway and also did some bigger jobs in my garage. I also worked at a restaurant part time so I could invest all my business funds back into the business for new equipment, and marketing. I got so busy that it started to bother my neighbors. I got called by code enforcement to stop operating a business in my driveway.

I told the guy to give me by the end of the year to get a shop. And I did. After first 6 months we have already moved into a bigger unit and exceeding growth expectations.
About to cross over our first full year and now about $20,000 a month!

This business is going to grow even further with plans to scale the business with more locations, a car care brand, and more service offerings.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely had some challenges finding a proper location. No one wanted to allow a detailing business. So I had to beg for a chance to show them how I could wash safely inside.

At first I went about it wrong telling them I had a detailing business and they gave an almost automatic NO. Then I told them I had a ceramic coating and ppf business and they said tell us more.

So sometimes it’s all about how you frame it.

Had a few other deals fell through. First was a commercial property that we were in line to rent to own. It would have been a huge game changer. Eventually owning a million dollar property. Seemed to good to be true and it was. The owner backed out and sold to the highest bidder.
Of course…

Another property wanted us to pay for the entire build out and a full waterproofing of the interior. They listed an initial cost of $50,000 on top of monthly rent.

Luckily the place we found at the Bradley business park was great we got a great monthly price and all the build out included for a small rent increase.

They even moved us into a bigger unit no questions asked when we needed more space!

Ofc finding clients has always been a challenge. It’s all about being relentless and answering the phone calls. Making calls and setting meetings. You can’t get business if you aren’t talking to people, networking, and putting yourself out there.
