Hi Myranda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am an avid animal lover, owning both dogs and cats. Anytime I poop, scoop the backyard, or clean out the cat litter box. I would always have a horrible smell coming from the trash bin outside. There had to be a better way of getting rid of the waste in a more environmentally friendly manner. I knew that Cow and Horse waste could be composted and used on crops, so why not compost Pet Waste? Doing my own research, I found out that Pet waste can be composted. I reached out to an organization that does Pet Waste Composting called the EPWN. They filled in the blanks for me regarding the process and how to get started on my own. This was when I made my dream of owning my own business a reality. I knew that I had something great because living in Austin, which is both pet friendly and environmentally friendly, I knew that I was in the right place at the right time to start up my business.
Doing a lot of events that included dogs and some advertising is how PetAgree started to get our name out to local pet owners. I mainly run PetAgree, and I get help from my wonderful husband. We, as a business, do poop scooping and have a bucket pickup service for people who either don’t have yards or would rather pick up their pets’ waste. We service Residential and Businesses. The other great thing about PetAgree is that we are affordable and offer our clients compostable poop bag products and natural cat litter for their pets. We will take poop from other poop-scooping companies to compost as well. PetAgree is very niche and unique in this respect; no other company in Texas or the Poop Scooping industry offers what we offer. I am incredibly proud of what we have done and excited for the future of the business.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
There have been many struggles along the way. Our biggest struggle has been Brand Recognition and getting our name out there. Another struggle is getting Businesses to utilize our services, making them realize that what we can offer will help their business get some government environmental credits and the Texas Composting Tax credit. We educate businesses/municipalities daily on the positive effects of composting pet waste and educate through providing statistical data and facts on why Pet Waste Composting is a better alternative. As a company, we would rather see the pet waste used as a soil amendment than end up in a landfill. Knowledge is power, and PetAgree understands that change can be challenging and scary at times, especially for Businesses. These obstacles are opportunities to educate, advocate, and do something that can benefit everyone.
