Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivier Vo.
Hi Olivier, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Paris, where I discovered my love for salsa and bachata in 2012. By 2014, dancing had become a serious part of my life. When I moved to San Diego in 2015, I joined Majesty in Motion, one of the city’s top Latin dance studios. Back then, videography was just a hobby—I’d edit silly vacation videos or birthday collages for fun.
Everything changed when the studio asked me to film a promo for a new event. I didn’t own any gear, so I borrowed a camera, lens, and gimbal from friends. The result wasn’t perfect, but the process was exhilarating. I loved capturing movement, framing energy, and turning raw footage into something dynamic. That’s when I realized I wanted to do more. Slowly, I found myself filming dancers more often than dancing myself.
In 2020, I moved to Austin just before the pandemic. The city was new to me, and lockdowns made it harder to connect with the dance scene. Then, by chance, I saw a Facebook post from two dancers—Angie and Audrey—who had just relocated from Boston and needed someone to film them. We clicked instantly, and that project marked the beginning of my videography journey in Austin.
Through word of mouth, I started working with local studios like Inspired Movement, Infusion Dance, and Esta Noche in San Antonio. Each project taught me something new—how to work with different lighting, how to edit to the rhythm of the music, how to bring out the emotion in every frame. The more I filmed, the more I fell in love with the craft.
Along the way, I met incredible people who shaped my career:
Zebadiah (ZB Imagery) – A talented photographer documenting Austin’s Latin dance scene. We shared the same vision and work ethic, and now we often collaborate as a team for clients who want both photos and videos.
Jonathan Godinez (Esta Noche) – A Latin dance world champion and professional videographer who became my mentor. His sharp eye for detail and disciplined approach pushed me to refine my skills.
Hugues Boyer (Krystal Management) – A versatile DJ who brought me into the world of event videography. Together, we’ve worked on weddings, corporate events, and festivals like the Austin Summer Carnival.
Looking back, what started as a side experiment with a borrowed camera has grown into a thriving business built on passion, relationships, and a deep appreciation for movement. I may not dance as much as I used to, but through my lens, I get to preserve the beauty of those who do—and that’s just as rewarding.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. This has been a journey of constant trial and error, the kind where every mistake teaches you something valuable but often painful. I remember my early days struggling with camera settings, wasting entire shoots because I didn’t understand how to properly expose for low-light club environments. I’d show up with the wrong lenses, miss critical moments, and then spend sleepless nights trying to salvage mediocre footage in editing.
The learning curve was steep. YouTube became my late-night classroom , I’d watch tutorial after tutorial, then practice techniques until they became second nature. But technical skills were only half the battle. Putting my work out there for public critique was terrifying at first. I had to develop thick skin while staying open to feedback that could make me better.
Perhaps the hardest lessons came from the business side. Learning to say no to projects that weren’t the right fit. Turning down money when I knew the collaboration wouldn’t serve either of us well. Balancing the passion with pragmatism. There were times I questioned whether I should keep going, but each small victory, nailing a difficult shot, seeing a client’s reaction to their video made the struggles worthwhile.
Looking back, those trials weren’t setbacks, they were the necessary steps to build both my skills and my resilience. Every error forced me to grow, and that process never really ends. Even now, with more experience, I still approach each project with a student’s mindset, because in creative work, there’s always more to learn.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about DOT Creativ?
I focus primarily on capturing the vibrant energy of dance performances and live events, while also offering a full range of videography services. My portfolio includes corporate productions, interviews, wedding films, nightclub events, and dance festivals – each project approached with the same commitment to quality and storytelling.
What truly defines my work is the ability to maintain exceptional production standards while meeting tight deadlines. I’ve developed efficient workflows that allow me to deliver polished, professional-grade videos faster than typical industry turnaround times, giving my clients an advantage in today’s fast-moving digital landscape.
A unique aspect of my service is real-time content creation. During events, I simultaneously capture footage for full edits while producing instant social media content – Instagram stories, reels, and posts that go live as the event unfolds. This dual-stream approach maximizes visibility and engagement for my clients while the excitement is still fresh.
The foundation of my business is built on lasting client relationships. The majority of my work comes from repeat clients who have grown to trust my creative vision and reliable execution. Whether it’s a dance studio needing consistent promotional content, a corporation documenting their events, or couples preserving their wedding memories, they return because I deliver more than just videos – I provide a seamless experience and results they can count on every time.
My versatility across different video genres, combined with rapid delivery capabilities and a relationship-focused approach, allows me to adapt to each client’s specific needs while maintaining the highest standards of quality and professionalism.
