Hidden Gems: Meet Robert Kizer of Lost Pines Pickleball Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Kizer.

Hi Robert, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We got started by buying a piece of land in Bastrop using the proceeds from the sale of a ranch in
Manor. Originally we started using this land to sell tiny homes. I brought another large building from this ranch in Manor with me when we relocated. I first put up this 125X125 building for the purposes of manufacturing tiny homes. Sales were going well at the time and the original manufacturer constructed an extremely good tiny home so that I didn’t want to compete for the manufacturing business. This building sat empty for 6 months. By this time I had started playing a lot of pickleball. I thought what better use of this property than playing the game that I love so much which is pickleball. We insulated the building and also added heat and air conditioning to create a comfortable playing environment. It has progressed from there as all pickleball facilities do.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. There is a lot of competition from outdoor facilities and no-one understood the pickleball business. This is very much a learn as you go business. I have made every mistake possible and hopefully have learned from that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lost Pines Pickleball Club?
We provide indoor pickleball courts for players in the Bastrop area to play pickleball at. We are the only indoor pickleball facility in Bastrop. We regularly host tournaments for large numbers of players. We also have a lot of parking that rivals a lot of facilities in Austin.
