Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Muhammad.
Hi Robert, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was involved in a drive-by shooting in 1992 where my best friend was murdered, another friend shot twice and a third had a bullet fragment lodged in his scalp. I was the only occupant of the vehicle that was not shot or injured. This life-changing incident sent me on a journey to engage in anti-violence and justice work in my community through self-improvement programs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a difficult but rewarding road the work of conflict resolution. The very first call we received about two young men that had brandished assault rifles on one another due to a child custody and domestic dispute. After following the procedures and protocols of conflict mediation, we were able to get the young in a face-to-face meeting where they resolved their issues. The difficult part was that a year later, one of the young men were killed under similar circumstances in Houston, Texas. The difficult part is fighting a culture of violence that immenates from nearly every corner of our society.
Since violence seems to have always existed, it’s hard for people to become devout and committed to a lifetime fight to reduce it. Therefore, budgets for serious campaigns seem to have very small purses if any purse at all.
We’ve been impressed with Perfect Manner, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
