Today we’d like to introduce you to Rolanda Williams.
Hi Rolanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am creator, operator and owner of Where’s The Party.
When I moved to Dallas in 2012, I immediately wanted to delve into the social scene Dallas had to offer and meet new people. After a series of disappointments and experiencing blatant racial discrimination firsthand, I wanted to give up on going out entirely. Subsequently, I did give up on trying new places, which resulted in only patronizing one or two venues I had grown to enjoy. Of course, after a while that became boring.
Eventually, I decided to explore the city more observantly and create a platform with the intent to provide a site where implants that had recently moved to the DFW area could find social events that were welcoming to Black patrons.
In 2019, Where’s The Party was born on Instagram. Ironically, the inception of Where’s The Party began several months prior to the apex of Covid-19 in 2020, the moment in time in which the world stopped socializing. The months following would have either halted progression or evolved Where’s The Party into something essential to the community.
Throughout 2020 WTP had provided a spotlight to more than just social gatherings. Charities, businesses, job openings, community resources, local artists, restaurants and more, we’re able to gain attention to help build their brand or keep tenured businesses afloat. Currently, Where’s The Party is working towards expansion to other cities within the U.S, and in the near future a mobile app.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Operating during Covid-19 was definitely a major challenge. However, it forced me to think outside of the party box. It made me embrace my creative side. It showed me how to adapt to change and thrive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Where’s The Party is an advertiser growing on social media. WTP provides a spotlight to more than just social gatherings. We advertise for charities, businesses, job openings, community resources, local artists, major artists, restaurants and more. Currently, Where’s The Party is working towards expansion to other cities within the U.S, and in the near future a mobile app.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5 to 10 years, WTP will be a mobile app and maybe the next major social media platform.
