Hidden Gems: Meet Shannon Briggs of Created For More Personal Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Briggs.

Hi Shannon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Since 1990, I have built my career in Austin’s fitness and dance industry. I spent 13 years working with the University of Texas RecSports program before the pandemic shut down operations. During those months, I continued with UT while also taking my own clients privately, either virtually or in person when that was an option. As my clientele grew, I knew I needed to make the big jump and leave UT to focus on building my own business.

Leaving UT was tough because I loved the job, the colleagues, and the supportive environment. However, limited advancement and part-time status motivated me to pursue more.

With my former supervisors’ support, I left UT. They now hire me on a contract basis, making it a win-win.

I have had my own business for about 5 years now. Created For More PT LLC. I see clients 1:1, either virtually or in my home studio. I teach virtual group fitness classes and have built an on-demand library with 100s of classes in different formats. I get to present for continuing education courses at collegiate conferences and dance conferences.

Working with the Kilgore College Rangerettes as their personal trainer has been a recent and fulfilling highlight. Drawing on my extensive dance background, I now help dancers proactively prevent injuries. These milestones reflect my commitment to making a positive, lasting impact in the industry—one client, class, and collaboration at a time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having my own business was a huge learning curve. When I am with a client or in front of a class, I feel alive and confident about what I am doing, but running a business was something I knew nothing about.

So, I took a 12-week business course from another fitness professional and learned a lot. I took a social media class to learn how to market myself better. I read some books, and most importantly, I acquired mentors along the way that I could reach out to when I had questions or needed help.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Created For More PT is not just about physical training. It’s about inspiring each client to live a healthier and happier life, nurturing the joy of movement, and empowering them to achieve their personal best. It’s a journey of personal growth.

More than aesthetics, our training is about feeling good outside of the gym, doing life! getting down on the floor to play with kids/grandkids. Gardening without pain. Hiking, paddle boarding without getting winded. Enjoying life!

Now with my Dancers, I aim to empower them to reach their peak potential by building strength and confidence, enhancing performance, and, most importantly, preventing injuries through specialized training. Our goal is to build longevity in their art!
Avoiding career-ending injuries!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I started with the book “Book Yourself Solid” by Michael Port. This book taught me so much about running any kind of business and making it something that fills you up and makes you better at what you do. I highly suggest it for anyone starting their own business. I also use Monday, an organizational app where I separate projects and business to-dos.

The fitness apps I use the most are Tabata Timer and Power Music. These have been used for hours and hours in my business, and they are so dependable!

I grow my fitness knowledge at fitness conferences to earn continuing education credits and use books, apps, and podcasts for personal time. Merlin Bird App brings me so much joy and peace as I learn different bird sounds, and I love using it when I travel, too.
