Hidden Gems: Meet Shelley Yoran of House of Nolen (styled by nolen)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelley Yoran.

Hi Shelley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up around craftsmanship. My family ran a custom leather company in Connecticut, and I spent hours there as a teenager learning materials, pattern-making, and the kind of quality that only comes from true hands-on work. After leaving Syracuse University, I started in a grounding accounting role in Boston, which gave me the structure and discipline I still rely on today. From there, I moved to NYC and spent a decade in fashion finance with brands like Coach and Michael Kors, learning how the creative and business sides of the industry come together at a high level.

When my family and I moved to Austin, I finally gave myself permission to build what is now House of Nolen. It began with styling flat lays online, then naturally progressed into styling friends, and eventually leading fashion direction for photo shoots and podcasts. Today, I operate between Austin, NYC, and Northern Westchester, blending fashion, interiors, and the spiritual lens of Kabbalah to help people dress and live with intention. Austin has been the place where all the layers of my background finally came together.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t been completely smooth, but the challenges have shaped the work in the best way. Motherhood has been my biggest turning point. Beautiful, grounding, and also the reason I had to rebuild my identity and career more than once. Balancing young kids with a creative business meant learning to work in the in-between moments, trust slower seasons, and stay flexible when life shifted.

There were times I questioned starting over, times when I felt behind, and times when I had to pause to care for my family. But each of those moments taught me resilience, clarity, and what truly matters. In many ways, motherhood refined my voice and my purpose. It pushed me toward work that feels aligned, meaningful, and spacious enough to hold both my creative life and my family life, without sacrificing either. (ish….)

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about House of Nolen (styled by nolen)?
House of Nolen is a styling and creative direction studio that lives at the intersection of fashion, interiors, and intentional living. I work one-on-one with clients to refine their personal style, build wardrobes that feel effortless and functional, and create a sense of alignment between how they dress and how they want to show up in the world. I also look to and do direct fashion shoots, podcast visuals, and brand storytelling for companies looking for a clean, elevated, minimal aesthetic with depth behind it.

What I’m known for is blending refined, architectural styling with a grounding spiritual lens. I use principles of Kabbalah to bring intention, clarity, and meaning into the process. Whether I’m styling an outfit, designing a space, or building a creative concept, I focus on ease, purpose, and quiet refinement.

What sets House of Nolen apart is the depth behind the aesthetic. It’s not just about clothing or interiors, it’s about how those layers shape your energy, your confidence, and the way you move through the world. My clients come to me for a point of view that is minimal, modern, and elevated, but also deeply personal and soulful.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of building a cohesive world. Spanning personal styling, creative direction, interiors, and my Substack The Kabbalah Studio. And who knows…maybe that world will one day extend into a full product line or even a physical space that brings all these ideas under one actual roof. For now, I’m laying the foundation for future offerings that remain true to the House of Nolen ethos: minimalist design, refined function, and everyday intention.

House of Nolen offers personal styling, event styling, wardrobe building, creative direction, interior guidance, and seasonal edits. At its heart, the brand helps people live beautifully and intentionally, through the layers they wear, the spaces they create, and the rituals that define their days.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to trust timing. Nothing meaningful happens all at once, and every season, especially the slower ones, has shaped me. Motherhood taught me to pause, pivot, and rebuild when needed.

And honestly, I’m just beginning. The most important part now is laying the framework and building the brand’s ethos with intention.
