Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Amason.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After years of working in corporate America – the feeling of lack of passion in my work was too overwhelming. I had always reminisced about how much I enjoyed one of my first jobs serving pizza and how great it felt to hear diners love my food and that it’s always better when I’m in the kitchen. I knew I was passionate about creating and serving something delicious.
Another passion, for years, has been coffee! I’d fallen in love with experimenting with new coffees, different brewing methods, latte art, and creating unique drinks. My wife and I talked about starting a coffee truck or trailer for a long time before finally jumping in.
Finally, I left my job and started to pursue this dream. I took classes, trained with skilled baristas working in specialty coffee shops, and built the trailer. In March of 2025 we officially launched.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have been really focused on establishing a full time location in Georgetown. While Austin has a very food and beverage truck/trailer friendly culture, Georgetown has proven less-so. We usually operate in a growing area of Georgetown (northwest end near Liberty Hill) but have failed to establish a deal to be able park and operate full-time consistently.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lost Horse Coffee?
Lost Horse Coffee serves the highest quality Specialty Coffee – we serve Onyx Coffee Labs roasts – extremely highly regarded in the industry. We put love and intention in everything we do – like our pumpkin spice syrup where we carefully measure and grind fresh spices and juice pumpkins to create something unique and delicious.
At Lost Horse Coffee, every cup is Intentionally Made—crafted with care, purpose, and a passion for quality. We serve both traditional favorites and unique craft coffee drinks, using only organic ingredients, free from artificial preservatives and dyes. Our coffee is always specialty-grade and ethically sourced, ensuring each brew supports sustainable practices and delivers exceptional flavor. From the first pour to the last sip, our mission is to provide a coffee experience that’s both meaningful and memorable.
Lost Horse Coffee began with a lifelong appreciation for coffee, service, and community. Travis (the owner) and his wife, Tanya, decided it was time to exit the corporate world and create something from passion- Lost Horse Coffee. Travis immersed himself in speciality coffee—taking classes, working in the industry, and learning everything he could to provide something unique.
In 2024, we built out our coffee trailer and carefully selected every brand and product we offer today. Tanya utilized her strengths, creating our branding and social media presence. Even our son helps out on the trailer, making this a true family business.
The name “Lost Horse” was inspired by the first trail we ever hiked together, in Joshua Tree National Park 17 years ago, as well as the wisdom in the Chinese adage of the Lost Horse-a reminder that fortune can hide within seemingly unfortunate scenarios.
~
Long ago, a poor farmer had a magnificent horse, that was admired by many. One day, the horse went missing. All of the neighbors and friends offered condolences to the farmer, with comments of misfortune. The farmer only replied with “maybe.”
Soon, the horse returned with a group of wild stallions. Now, neighbors and friends expressed their excitement and commented on good fortune. Again, the farmer replied with “maybe.”
While training the stallions, the farmer’s son broke his leg. The farmer and his son were again consoled with ideas of misfortune, and again, the farmer only thought, “maybe.”
Soon, all able-bodied men were drafted into the military, for a war resulting in 90% of the men dying. Due to the son’s injury, his life was spared.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
There is so much more involved with having a successful business then serving a good product. You need strong connections, consistent marketing, and so much more.
We’ve had so many comment on our coffee being the best in Georgetown, best in Austin, best they’ve ever had, we’ve ruined coffee for them because they can’t go anywhere else now – but we are still teetering the line of success or possible failure. We are continuing to put everything we can into making Lost Horse Coffee a success.
