Hidden Gems: Meet Whitney Rice of Simplified Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Rice

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Simplified Austin started as a side hustle while I was in the 11th year of my teaching career. A family whose children I had previously taught asked me to organize their walk-in pantry while they were on vacation. I had so much fun transforming their space and, noticing the work was peaceful and fulfilling, I decided it was time to start an official business.
I continued teaching for one more school year before deciding to take the leap to organize full-time. This month, Simplified Austin turns 5! I continue to find organizing and helping others extremely rewarding. It’s hard work, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve been very blessed to have a very successful professional organizing business. There are definitely busy seasons and times where business is slower, but I continue to gain new clients, revisit existing clients and fill any down time with professional development opportunities. I’m so grateful for word-of-mouth referrals, client reviews and SEO courses that have helped my website bring me new leads.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Simplified Austin?
Simplified Austin is a full-service professional organizing company that helps busy people conquer the clutter that weighs them down. From young families to retirees, we aim to create efficient, practical and beautiful organization systems in our clients’ spaces so they can spend more time doing what they love.

There are lots of professional organizing companies in Austin! We are very supportive of each other.
What sets Simplified Austin apart is that it is owned by me, a native Austinite with 12 years of education experience (I have patience galore!) who has a calm and caring demeanor and an eye for beautiful yet practical organizing solutions. Sustainability is also important to me. I recycle whenever possible, take donations to organizations that give items directly to those in need and suggest environmentally-friendly organizing products that are still aesthetically pleasing.

If you’re looking to get organized, we can help with nearly any project! If it can be organized, we can do it. From pantries and closets to garages and bathrooms, we have 5 years of experience bringing order to your spaces.

Simplified Austin is a proud member of NAPO, The National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals as well as Inspired Organizer. We have a passion for education and keeping up with the latest in the industry.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The thought of taking the leap of faith to start my own professional organizing business was terrifying. How could I leave the education career I loved and start something new? What if I failed? What if it was the wrong decision?

My determination and curiosity have been central to the success of Simplified Austin. As an educator, I am always curious to learn new things, so I invested in memberships in NAPO and Inspired Organizer so I could do just that. Anyone who knows me well knows that I am determined (some might say stubborn), but that drive has helped push me through any doubts and to create the successful business Simplified Austin is today.
