Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Perley
Hi Amy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Originally from the UK I studied architecture in Oxford and worked there as an assistant architect for several years. In 2010 I moved to Beijing, China and worked in the building industry for six years, first in property development and then as an interior designer for commercial and residential projects. During my time in China I worked with large companies such as BMW on their flagship dealerships, restored a 400 year old triple-courtyard mansion into a boutique hotel and worked on multiple high-end residential projects. In 2016 my partner (now husband) Buck and I, moved to the Bay Area, CA where I worked at an interior design company on high-end residential projects. We moved to Austin in 2018 with the goal of starting a family, and the following year I started my own interior design company Perley Interiors. Perley Interiors focuses on residential new builds and remodels with an emphasis on high-quality finishes and timeless design. We live in South Austin with our two young kids (3.5 years and 18 months), two Beijing cats and one Austin dog.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Setting up my own business has had its challenges. For one thing, when you first start out you feel obliged to accept every project that comes your way, whether it is a good fit for you or not. Learning how to set rates, create boundaries between yourself and your clients and deal with all the admin that comes with running your own business are all things that seem to be learned largely through trial and error.

Perley Interiors is a full spectrum interior design firm that specializes in residential remodels and new builds. For us the biggest focus is on our clients and really listening to them in order to understand what it is that they desire from their new environment. We strive for beautiful, functional spaces that feel relevant yet timeless. High-end finishes and furnishings help dictate a sense of enduring quality. While we love certain design trends our focus is always on a space that can grow and adapt to the changing needs of the client, providing a sanctuary for themselves and their families. What makes us proudest is when our clients are so happy with their new spaces that they either come back to us with other projects or recommend us to their friends and neighbors.
