Inspiring Conversations with Brenda Ramos of Lumii

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Ramos.

Hi Brenda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story begins with my parents’ journey. I grew up in an immigrant family, speaking only Spanish and watching my parents navigate a world that didn’t always make space for them. Those early experiences shaped me, they taught me humility, resilience, and the importance of helping others feel seen and supported.

Truthfully, I never planned to start a business. I simply followed opportunities and the guidance of mentors who believed in me. And along the way, the trust that families placed in me shaped me just as much. Their openness, their stories, and their willingness to let me be part of their children’s lives gave me confidence and purpose I didn’t always have on my own.

Over time, I realized I wanted to create something that reflected the values I was raised with and the lessons families had taught me. That’s how Lumii began, from heart, purpose, and a desire to serve families with compassion, dignity, and cultural understanding. I’m grateful for every step that led me here.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but the challenges have made me stronger, more grateful, and even more connected to the mission behind Lumii.

Starting Lumii has definitely stretched me. There have been moments where the paperwork, credentialing steps, and behind-the-scenes logistics felt overwhelming. And while I’ve had days of questioning myself or feeling unsure, I’ve also learned that those feelings are a natural part of building something new, not a reflection of my ability or my passion.

One of the hardest parts has been navigating everything on my own: forming the LLC, learning (and still learning) insurance requirements, balancing compliance, staying organized, and continuing to move forward even when the process wasn’t always clear. There’s no simple handbook for opening an ABA practice, every practice has its own challenges and you often have to figure things out step by step while keeping your heart open and your vision intact. I’ve had to learn how to not let the administrative side dull the passion I have for this field.

But I’m truly grateful for what these challenges have taught me. They’ve built resilience, patience, and a deeper sense of purpose. Every roadblock helped refine my “why.” And even the moments where I had to step away and breathe or cry a little reminded me how deeply I care about creating something safe, meaningful, and supportive for our sweet babies and their families.

Lumii grew out of love, intention, and a desire to serve. And every hurdle along the way has only strengthened that foundation.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Lumii ABA is a family-centered Applied Behavior Analysis practice in Central Texas, created with one mission: to help every child’s light shine. We specialize in compassionate, assent-based ABA therapy for autistic children ages 2–8, offering in-home and community-based services that honor each child’s individuality, dignity, and autonomy.

What truly sets Lumii apart is our core belief that therapy should feel safe, respectful, and empowering, not overwhelming or forceful. We are known for taking a gentle, child-led approach rooted in relationship building, functional communication, and meaningful skill development.

Our work is guided by four core values:
Compassion • Integrity • Empowerment • Belonging
-These values shape every decision, every interaction, and every step of a child’s journey with us.

We are most proud of creating a brand that feels warm, approachable, and inclusive…a space where parents breathe easier, children feel accepted as they are, and progress happens through connection rather than compliance. Lumii is more than a therapy service, it’s a supportive community.

At Lumii, we offer:
In-home ABA therapy
Community-based support
Parent support + collaboration
Gentle, assent-based practices
Highly individualized behavior and skill-building programs

Above all, we want readers to know that Lumii is built with heart. We are here to walk alongside families, celebrate every milestone big or small, and help every child grow, glow, and shine in their own beautiful way.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned while starting Lumii is that building something meaningful takes courage, compassion, and a willingness to trust the process, even when it feels extra scary. When you create a business that comes from the heart, where success isn’t measured in numbers but in impact, you quickly realize there will be moments of doubt, overwhelm, and uncertainty.
But there will also be moments that remind you exactly why you started.

Launching Lumii has shown me that you don’t need to have everything figured out on day one. What matters most is staying grounded in your values, showing up with integrity, and remembering who you’re doing this for the children, the families, and the community you want to serve.

I’ve learned that small steps matter, that every connection counts, and that leading with empathy will always guide you in the right direction. Lumii has taught me that when your purpose is clear and deeply rooted in compassion, everything else aligns in its own time.
