Inspiring Conversations with Christy Price of Christy Price LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Price.

Hi Christy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I didn’t grow up dreaming of owning a web design business. I actually grew up on a farm in rural Tennessee, long before the internet was part of everyday life. When my parents brought home our first computer, though, I was hooked. I loved figuring out how things worked, experimenting, and making something appear on a screen from nothing.

That curiosity followed me into adulthood. I went to graduate school for cognitive psychology and fully expected to become a college professor. While I was in grad school, I started building simple websites on the side, mostly out of interest, not as a career plan. When I realized I didn’t want to be a professor, I ended up leaving my PhD program and took a job at a web development company, which gave me hands-on experience and showed me that I actually loved the creative and problem-solving side of web design.

Over time, web design became my full-time focus. In 2018, I shifted my focus to Squarespace because I loved how perfect it is for small business owners. It lets people feel confident and capable instead of dependent on a developer for every little change, which really aligns with how I like to work.

Today, I run my own Squarespace design and education business from Austin. I design websites for service-based businesses, but I also teach designers how to create calmer, more professional processes so their businesses don’t feel chaotic or overwhelming. A lot of my clients and students are women returning to work, leaving a 9–5, or building something new in a later season of life, and I care deeply about making this work feel sustainable and human.

I didn’t take a straight path to get here, but looking back, every step makes sense. I get to combine psychology, design, and teaching into work that genuinely helps people, and that feels like exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges early on was letting go of the idea that success should happen quickly or follow a clear, linear path. I spent years building things that didn’t “work” right away. I blogged for months before seeing any traction from SEO. I posted weekly YouTube videos for over a year before monetization was even a possibility. There were many moments where it would have been easy to assume I was doing something wrong, when in reality, I just hadn’t stayed the course long enough yet.

Another struggle was learning to trust my own process. In client work, especially early on, it’s tempting to bend your systems to make everyone happy. I did that for a time and ended up exhausted, with projects dragging on longer than they should. It took experience (and a few tough projects) to realize that clear boundaries and a strong process don’t make you rigid; they actually make you a better partner for your clients.

I’ve also had to navigate building a business through different seasons of life. Redefining what success looks like at different stages has been humbling and grounding. I’ve learned to value sustainability over hustle and consistency over quick wins.

Progress often looks boring before it looks successful, and I think that perspective resonates with a lot of people who are quietly building something meaningful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business sits at the intersection of web design, education, and calm leadership.

At the core, I’m a Squarespace website designer working primarily with service-based businesses. I design custom websites and also offer focused, two-day builds for clients who want something thoughtful and strategic without a long, drawn-out process. I specialize in creating sites that are clean, easy to navigate, and built to grow with the business, not just look good on launch day.

What really sets my work apart is how much I care about process. I’m known for bringing structure and clarity to something that often feels overwhelming. Many of my clients come to me feeling exhausted by past experiences with design projects. I bring a calm, collaborative approach that helps them make decisions with confidence and understand what’s happening at every step.

Alongside client work, I run an education business for Squarespace designers. Through courses, templates, YouTube, and community spaces, I teach designers how to create sustainable workflows, communicate more clearly with clients, and build businesses that don’t rely on constant hustle. Many of my students are talented designers who simply never learned how to run projects smoothly, and helping them gain that confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how consistent and grounded everything feels. I’ve intentionally built a brand that values patience, clarity, and professionalism over hype. I don’t position myself as someone with shortcuts or overnight success stories. Instead, I focus on showing what steady progress actually looks like and helping people build systems that support them long-term.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Absolutely! A few lessons I’ve learned…

Don’t confuse slow growth with failure. Most businesses that last are built quietly and steadily, not overnight.

I wish I’d known earlier that you don’t need to feel confident to move forward. Clarity comes from doing, not from thinking about doing. Make decisions, learn from them, and adjust.

Create a simple process sooner than you think you need one. It will save you time, reduce stress, and help you show up more professionally, even when you’re still figuring things out.

And finally, build a business that fits your real life. Not the version you think you “should” want in the future. Sustainability is what lets you keep going long enough for the results to matter.

You’re not behind. You’re building.
