Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristian Cruz.
Hi Cristian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Mexico, Michoacan. In a very poor village so poor that my mom didn’t have enough money to feed me with milk so she used flour with water to feed me. In our small house in Lazaro Cardenas Michoacán sometimes we didn’t have electricity, our house was made of plastic and it wasn’t even ours it was borrowed I was involved in foster care and grew up without a father. My mother provided for my siblings and I and worked her ass off to put food on the table so she barely had time to focus on us I don’t blame her because she had a tough job. From my early childhood to 12 grade I never found school intriguing or beneficial to me, the real reason why I failed all my classes and dropped out of high school wasn’t specifically because I was bad at school or dumb it was mostly because I was hard-headed and wouldn’t ask for help I was a teenager trying to act cool, but I always needed help and support since I was a child. In my sophomore year, my mom was deported and my siblings and I had to go into the foster system honestly one of the scariest times of my life because we’ve never been separated or have been through this process.
In the middle of all of this during senior year I ended up having a child. I had to make ends meet so I had to drop out of school to start working. After working for many years I was introduced to the year-up program the program is a 1-year program that enables young adults to move from minimum wage to meaningful careers in just one year. Introduced to me by one of my old social workers. She saw the struggle and hard-working ethic that I was putting into all these minimum wage jobs. My year-up experience was amazing but at the time was scary I had to overcome a lot of obstacles, honestly, people didn’t know who I was I was always in my shell, I graduated from the Year Up non-profit program and got rewarded the best project manager and top of my class, and I ended up working at Facebook, Google, Youtube, Tesla as Project/Program manager and decided to start my own business in fitness called FITOWN, I applied all the skills I learned to created a better structured and strategy business to help others achieve their goals through fitness. and I’m still in the process of getting my bachelor’s in Business which will help me continue to grow “FITOWN”. As I tell the young general do great things, no matter how scary this might seem. The reality is, that anything we do will have issues in the future You either allow the circumstances to drive you towards negativity or you can use them to think positively, you take setbacks as an important lesson and try to learn whatever they are teaching you.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There are many challenges I faced and still face to this day. I grew up in a very poverty location and came to the United States as an illegal immigrant working hard labor at the age of 10 with my parents to help put food on the table. My father left when I was 12, needed a father figure as I grew up, and had a hard time focusing and learning in school, I was a foster child and went through serious pain seeing my family go through life. I had my son at 17 and had to be a parent at a young age but all these struggles made me a stronger man.
We’ve been impressed with FITOWN, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I decided to start my own business in fitness called FITOWN, I applied all the skills I learned to create a better structured and strategy business to help others achieve their goals through fitness. and I’m still in the process of getting my bachelor’s in Business which will help me continue to grow “FITOWN”. FITOWN is a new team to help you achieve your fitness goals and provide guidance along the way. It can be a difficult journey but a rewarding one if you put in the effort to change your life. We provide diet plans, workouts, and daily motivation to keep you on track to the finish line.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risks are part of the process, I’ve taken many risks to achieve what I have now. Always remember that you will never know unless you try, nobody can really be sure if risks will pay off, but this should not stop you from taking risks. If you want your business or career to succeed, risks are necessary.
When you’re ready to take a risk, there are some important keys, which are building self-confidence, ignoring feelings of self-doubt, and fighting through imposter syndrome. Taking risks doesn’t have to be scary. Fear is an emotion that is hard-wired into us to keep us safe from danger. We take that emotion and let that same feeling stop us from asking for more at work or in our personal lives or in our business. But never forget that the fear of failure should only stop you if you feel you can’t do your best. Be your own advocate, push through and, win or lose, you’ve bettered yourself. “If you are fearless, you fear less.”
