Inspiring Conversations with Estella Castro of Austinite Cannabis Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Estella Castro.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Cannabis has always been used as a medicine for me. When I was diagnosed with my lung disease, the doctors told me that I would never be able to smoke again. They also prescribe hard painkillers that many people become addicted to. I did not want to live off of these medications that are not natural which ultimately led to the start of our cannabis journey. I learned I could use edibles and RSO which is most commonly used as medical cannabis. We opened our first CBD dispensary in 2020, and the next year opened our first medical dispensary in Oklahoma.

We have always been advocates for the legalization of cannabis. When the 2018 farm bill passed and we began seeing CBD flowers for the first time being grown in our home state, we know this was the moment we had been waiting for. We began planning at the beginning of 2020 and by August 2020 we opened our first CBD dispensary in East Austin. About a year later, we expanded into Oklahoma to get our foot into medical cannabis. We are now in possession of multiple hemps and medical marijuana licenses.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the business we’re in, there are always going to be obstacles and challenges. Our biggest obstacle at the moment is the State of Texas’s lack of progression to this plant-based medication. We have, in a way, overcome this obstacle by expanding to Oklahoma; a state that already has an established medical program. Oklahoma is actually undergoing a transition period where we are setting our system up to hopefully go recreational soon. This includes a complete overhaul of our POS system, and tighter guidelines on what manufacturers are allowed to put in dispensaries. We have seen a lot of companies fold over the past few months, so we would be lying if we said it was a smooth road so far, but we wouldn’t want it any other way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We started Austinite Cannabis Company in August of 2020 with only our children with hopes of giving back to the community of East Austin we were born and raised in. We provide hemp-derived cannabis products that can assist with a customer’s health and wellness. We are known for our hemp-derived CBD, Delta-9, and Delta-8 products primarily, the latter of which is a legal way to provide THC to adults in need. What sets Austinite Cannabis apart is the standard we set for the products we carry in our store. Everything we offer comes from hemp farms that our team has personally visited and met the manufacturers of everything we have on our shelves. Customers should know they are getting the best quality in the state, and the market, from a local family-owned store, when they shop with Austinite Cannabis.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We host monthly comedy shows at our store on East Cesar Chavez for the community to enjoy! Our next show is on the night of October 22nd. We also host vendor markets, and have recently expanded into hosting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu invitational tournaments with the Cannabis Combat Club. Our social media are the best way to keep up with our events.
