Today we’d like to introduce you to Gardenia Alamillo
Hi Gardenia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My Name is Gardenia Alamillo.
I was Born and Raised in a small town of less than 3,000 people called Dakota City, Nebraska.
My parents are immigrants from Jerez, Zacatecas Mexico, who relocated to Nebraska in search of job opportunities and have been working in a meatpacking plant for the last 30 years called Tyson foods.
Because I was blessed to have such an amazing example of work ethic from my parents, I was determined to get to work as soon as I could.
My first job was at 16 years old working as a cashier at Best Buy. I would then Move into retail, then eventually land in my local town optometry office as an optician by age 17.
At one point, I had three part-time jobs along with going to school full-time not because I had to, but because I wanted to.
I genuinely love the feeling of being busy and productive and setting an example for others around me not to have an excuse for getting stuff done.
By 2017, I had graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with my bachelors in biology. Once I graduated, I made a life changing decision to leave everyone I knew and get out of my comfort zone to explore a brand new city I knew nothing about which was Austin, Texas.
When I arrived to Austin, Texas I started applying to different jobs just like everyone else who moves to a new place, and I got hired by a company named Texas Diabetes in their clinical research department.
I worked my way up the corporate ladder in clinical research for 6 years before I was introduced to the Financial Services Industry .
I was recruited into the industry, by my good friend at the time, Bruno Castillo 🙂
Eventually he then recruited me to him lol.
To be very honest, I had no idea what the insurance Industry entailed. All I knew was my friend invited me to come check out the office for support and that was the first day I heard from Jorge Pelayo. I was captivated by the wisdom and experience Jorge shared and knew from that day on, I needed to be surrounded by bigger thinking leaders.
I am very grateful to have a mentor in my life to guide me on the right path of success through not only business but also through life and relationship.
I made the decision to join the insurance industry because I saw the vision and expansion into a new territory and all the opportunities that came with it to help so many people in underserved communities with financial literacy.
Fast-forward to today, Bruno and I are now Senior Brokers of our Agency with 60+ Licensed Agents. We are planning to finish off the year with 100+ licensed agents.
Determined To Serve Financial is on a mission to provide the utmost value to every client we sit in front of and secure their family with the best options suited for them.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Entrepreneurship is not smooth what’s so ever!
Especially when you are trying to find out the right way to do it, but the reality is if you are solving for perfection it’s never going to happen.
A lot of people want to become successful entrepreneurs, but they’re not willing to make the sacrifices. It takes to make Their dreams angles become a reality.
When I Started transitioning into My business, I was constantly being pulled back-and-forth with my job and the time it took to build up business.
There would be times I would question to myself. Is this something I really want to do?
All I could think about was if I don’t make the decision to go all in and really create something for myself and my family then the reality was I was going to continue working in corporate America and retire at 65.
I personally do not want that. I wanted more and I’m not afraid to work for it.
I also had to overcome a lot of people who did not support me.
There is a saying that strangers will become clients quicker than friends and family.
There are people that take it very personal that they’re loved ones and they’re current associations. Do not support their decision to start a business but for me it actually did the complete opposite.
When I have people who doubt me or don’t support me, it pushes me 10 times harder to give them a reason why they should’ve never doubted me and why they should have supported me.
Mental toughness is a real thing you need to have in order to run a business along with consistency and discipline.
The reality is a lot of people allowed temptations and distractions to redirect them from their dreams and goals and that’s why they never make it.
The reality is if the road was smooth, everybody would be on the same road. I embrace Every crack, bump, and pothole That comes my way because I know if I can overcome it then I’ll be prepared for the next.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the diversity of Austin And how aggressively it is growing.
I remember moving here in 2017 and there Or no restaurants are buildings off of Ranch Road 620 and I would drive to work
Now there is so many bridges buildings being built everywhere you go and it’s exciting because it means there is a vast amount of opportunities yet to come.
What I like, least about the city is honestly just the weather lol it’s so hot!
