Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanna Myers-Rivas.
Hi Hanna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I remember the first time I wanted to be a photographer: at the local gallery, DaVinci’s Artist Gallery, in Tomball, TX. I saw this amazing picture. I thought it was a painting, but it was a photo! From there, I started experimenting with picture taking with my flip phone and digital camera until I eventually got my first starter DSLR in high school. Over the years, I just kept taking pictures and experimenting until I moved to Brenham and entered the world of photography professionally.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My biggest struggle has been my insecurity about my work. Whether it was in high school and worrying about picking a more “professional” career path or when I started photography professionally and doubted my abilities, I sabotaged myself quite a few times.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The tagline for Hey Hanna Photography is People | Passions | Plates. It’s what I define as my specialty in photography. ‘People’ refers to portraiture, ‘Passions’ is people taking their creative passions and turning them into vibrant businesses where I capture what they do best, and ‘Plates’ is food and restaurant photography. I work with small businesses and love working with them from the beginning of their business journey and throughout as they expand! Small-town life is vibrant, and there is always something new going on. I love that small businesses reflect that revival, and I’m here to capture it.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been interested in the arts in some way or another throughout my whole life. I dabbled in various artistic activities during childhood, such as dance, reading, choir, drawing, and photography. My mom was also a photographer, so I spent my early years on the other side of the lens! Additionally, my grandma took me to many festivals, art shows, and theater performances. My family truly inspired the creative side of me.
