Inspiring Conversations with Heather Cash of Aggieland Aesthetics MedSpa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Cash

Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually kind of fell into the industry by chance. Call it the grace of God or the universe putting me where I was supposed to be. I actually used to be a singer. While I was pursuing music pretty passionately, I’ve always been a pretty logical person and knew that I needed something to fall back on. You know, for when “I turned 30 and got old.” I was applying to re-enroll at Blinn Community College and a coworker of mine just happened to bring up Avenue 5 Insitute in Austin, Texas. She’d mentioned her niece had just completed their esthetics program and absolutely loved it. Having ZERO idea what an esthetician was, I applied to get in. They accepted me first, and a couple of months later I moved to Austin and started school.

I went into my program not knowing what the heck I was getting myself into and no intention of actually using my license until I decided I didn’t want to sing anymore. As school went on, I had a knack for the industry, I won awards in school. Just a couple of days after I passed my state boards, I got my first job as an esthetician at Massage Envy in South Round Rock. I was a top seller and really excelled in my position. Since the beginning of my career, I always had an interest in the corrective side of esthetics. I loved to solve problems and make visible changes in people’s skin and self-confidence.

A couple of years later, I moved back to the Bryan/College Station area. The demographic wasn’t quite jumping into the world of aesthetic treatments just yet. Working at different day spas and med spas with hardly any clientele, I bartended five nights a week to pay the bills.

I was planning on moving back to Austin after being offered a lead position at a prominent medspa in the area, when a handful of my clients expressed, they wouldn’t have anywhere to go if I left. So, with no one hiring in my area at the time and nowhere to see clients, I started Aggieland Aesthetics in October of 2017 so I’d have a place to work. I needed a job, so I made one. I was able to treat client’s skin with my own approach for the first time with products and treatments that I actually believed in. It snowballed really fast from there… and here we are today.

I’ve grown with employees, built a new spa in 2020, expanded in 2024. We’ve won multiple awards like Insights Best MedSpa in Brazos Valley, a 2 year award winner for BNS Best In Business and more.

It’s not your average “this was my dream” story, but I truly feel that this was my calling, and the universe kept placing me exactly where I needed to be.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t necessarily say smooth. It wasn’t a straight path for sure. There were multiple times I wanted to and tried to leave the industry. It wasn’t easy to build a clientele 13 years ago when I got started. Social media wasn’t what it is today, and people in my area weren’t really into aesthetic treatments yet. The first 6 years of my career I waitressed and bartended 5-6 nights a week to pay the bills while I perfected my craft and learned the industry during the day.

I struggled with fulfillment. For a long time, I didn’t feel like I was contributing to the world with my career.

Once I started working for myself and found my niche, I finally knew I was on the right path. Then came the struggles of expanding and learning how to be a leader and managing people.

I think every day could be considered a struggle depending on how you look at it. Now I face challenges daily with different clients skin conditions, business decisions, employees. But that’s what makes it all gratifying. Solving these problems. I think all of the struggles have taught me so much and continue to mold me into a better person, a better boss and a better aesthetician.

We’ve been impressed with Aggieland Aesthetics MedSpa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a MedSpa that specializes in preventive and corrective skincare. My approach to skin is what sets us apart from other spas because I focus on the health and integrity of the skin before correction to achieve optimal results and limit adverse effects. I also focus on education. I teach every single client step by step how to and why to properly care for their skin on a day-to-day basis. Every single thing we do from homecare to treatment plans are 100% customized to every clients conditions and needs.

I am so proud of our brand. I’ve worked really hard to create a brand based on knowledge and customer experience. I pride myself on my education in the industry and the customer service I provide. My team is so companionate and knowledgeable. We thrive on creating a space where our clients feel prioritized, welcomed and safe because they know that their needs, concerns and skin are in safe hands.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned to value myself. As someone who didn’t always have the easiest path in life, my entire career from beginning to end has allowed me to interact with people, whether they were mentors, clients or colleagues that I wouldn’t have met or spoken to in any other social setting. They’ve inspired me, taught me things professionally, made me feel proud for the first time, showed me how to have boundaries, that it’s okay to be vulnerable, how to be patient. Every part of my journey in aesthetics over the past 13 years has taught me something valuable which in turn made me recognize my own value.
