Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Okimura Knight.
Hi Jessica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Axiom Fitness Studio, a private, strength-based personal training studio, with the goal of empowering women to reach their health and wellness goals in a sustainable and supportive way.
I grew up playing sports all my life and later stumbled into my career as a personal trainer through competitive powerlifting. What began as my own pursuit of strength and competition evolved into a deep curiosity about training, performance, and the role strength plays in building confidence — especially for women. After spending time working in traditional gym environments, I began to notice the need for more approachable spaces for women to achieve fitness as a lifestyle and education on a holistic approach to long term results.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. I started this as a bootstrapped business, which has meant learning to wear every hat at once, while recently becoming a mom to a beautiful baby girl. I used my personal training income to start this studio from the ground up. Every decision, from equipment purchases to expansion such as our recent relocation, has required careful planning and patience. I will admit I am extremely blessed my husband supported me through my crazy ideas and not to mention… did most of the manual labor (gym equipment is heavy).
Another big challenge has been shifting from trainer to business owner. Learning how to manage, set boundaries, and build systems while still showing up fully for clients has been a continual process. Growth hasn’t been able move as fast as I had anticipated, but I hope to build intentionally and make choices that align with long-term values. These challenges continue to shape both me and the studio in meaningful ways.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a women’s strength based private personal training studio. We specialize in one on one personal training sessions tailored specifically for women to take a holistic approach to health and wellness.
What sets Axiom apart is the level of personalization and intention behind every session. Clients train in a private, elevated environment with full access to high-quality equipment typically found in larger gyms, without the distractions or intimidation of a crowded fitness floor.
Our approach emphasizes education, consistency, and confidence building. We meet women where they are and support them through every stage of their fitness journey.
Brand wise, we’re most proud of creating a space where women feel both challenged and supported. We want to define what strength training can look like for women.
How do you think about luck?
Luck? Hmmm, I am originally from Hawaii, moved to San Diego for several years and ended up in Austin on a whim of exploration. I’d say I’m fortunate to be where I am today. There have been a few moments of “right place, right time”—most notably securing the lease for our current location—which aligned perfectly and played a key role in helping Axiom get to where we are.
