Inspiring Conversations with Luke Hoeft of Hoeft Design Build

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Hoeft.

Luke, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Hoeft Design Build story starts generations ago in North Texas in a cabinet maker’s shop. Sherman, Texas, 1950. Owner Luke Hoeft’s great grandfather built several of the houses that still stand along Grand Avenue in Sherman, as well as many of the custom pieces of furniture at Austin college, the first national bank, and many other homes around town. Construction has been passed down for generations until, in 2023, Luke Hoeft started Hoeft Design Build in Georgetown, Texas. In just two and a half years, Hoeft Design Build has remodeled dozens of homes, kitchens, bathrooms, and built two ADUs from the ground up. Their focus is to build a reputation for quality workmanship and eye-catching designs. By branding the company with the family name, they have fully committed to this mission with an eye on the continuation of the generational legacy.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The growth journey thus far has been without major headwinds.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a design and build remodeling company. There are many remodeling companies. What makes us stand out is our reputation for truly compelling designs. We avoid overplayed design trends and any project that would not support this reputation. Our bread and butter is bathrooms and kitchens. However, we are doing more and more mother in law suites and ADUs. This trend is very popular in Georgetown and throughout the Austin area as multi generational living becomes more common, likely due to skyrocketing real estate costs.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson is that honesty always wins. The home services industry has a bad reputation. Most prospects and clients are spending a very significant chunk of their savings on their project, and picking the right person is very stressful. We firmly stand on the practice of total transparency around pricing, planning, permitting, and production. When things come up, the client needs to be in the loop at all times. In construction, things don’t always go as planned; and we have found that communication is key to increasing trust.
