Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Griffin.
Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After retiring from the NFL me and my two business partners always discussed being entrepreneurs but at the same time, what was a small risk but big reward. We all enjoy sweets and while out on one of our guys hangout sessions, we decided to grab some cupcakes. While eating the cupcakes, Brian Orakpo said why not cupcakes? What’s something that no matter the time of the year or holidays people always celebrate with sweets. So we were familiar with the Gigis Cupcake Brand from Nashville since we both were Titans and our partner Bryan Hynson made some phone calls and the rest was history. From that point, we became a business owner.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. Playing in the National Football league prepares you for the minor bumps in the road. Of course, it’s hard finding employees with the high turnover rate but when it happens, we just strap on our aprons and get to work.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Gigis Cupcakes?
We are a cupcake shop. We specialize in the many variety of cupcakes and we constantly change seasonly. We always have every flavor available for special order with our recipe book, but also we have a behind the scenes pastry chef ( Babbs) that we can call on if there is something that a customer wants to get creative. We are open seven days a week, offer birthday parties for an in house baking experience and we pride ourselves with charitable work we do for the community. Our Core Flavors is the Wedding Cake, Strawberry Shortcake, Midnight Magic, and Red Velvet. But let’s not forget we offer cheesecakes in cupcake sizes, gluten-free options and vegan options. Oh, I forgot the mini cupcakes also that are perfect for the lil ones!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The only advice I would offer is it’s not easy but if you put your mind to it, then you can have great success. stay humble and hungry at the same time. Ask for advice and research great practices.
