Inspiring Conversations with Neasel Conner of Beyond the Happy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neasel Conner.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a military brat who was born in Pennsylvania but raised in Texas. Growing up, I loved to read and write and had dreams of becoming a lawyer. However, as I grew up I started to develop and interest and psychology. After high school, I headed to Baylor University and my love for the human mind coupled with my empathetic spirit led me to the road of counseling. Fast forward ten years later, and I received my Psych degree from Baylor University (Sic Em) and my Masters of Counseling degree from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas. I am fully licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to Beyond the Happy has not been without bumps in the road. One of the reasons why I am so passionate about the work is because I struggle with anxiety. So many times, I have wanted to give up on my pursuit of Beyond the Happy because I wasn’t sure if I would ever get past my own anxiety. However, I have learned that my own struggles help me to lead with empathy and compassion when I work with my clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Beyond the Happy?
Beyond the Happy is founded on this principle of helping women get beyond “happily ever after”! My passion and purpose is to help women undo narratives that no longer serve them so that they can live a life free from the expectations and narratives that have held them back. My therapeutic specialties include anxiety, depression, major life transitions, relationships, and identity issues. I do this through therapy, women’s groups, tabe talks, vision board parties, and photography.

What makes you happy?
The list of things that bring me happiness and joy is quite long! However, I find the most joy in the small moments; like bright sunshine and walks to the mailbox with my baby girl, long conversations on the patio with my husband, and cuddles with my son while he tells me jokes.
