Inspiring Conversations with Nicolette Sciore of Bene Pilates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolette Sciore.

Hi Nicolette, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been an athlete most of my life and have also been in multiple car accidents which led me to physical therapy and ultimately to doing private pilates sessions. I was amazed at how good I felt after each session and how I could tell this was something my body needed in addition to my every day activity. I believed so strongly in the practice that when the opportunity was presented to me to become an instuctor and complete a mentorship and comprehensive training program I was eager to do so. Originally I planned to be a part-time intructor in addition to my full time job but when I was 3/4 completed with the program, I was laid off from my full time job while also finalizing my divorce. So I found myself as a newly unemployed, single mother at the end of my pilates teacher training. I decided to take the leap and make teaching pilates a full time career as it would allow me the flexibility to be there for both of my kids and do something I love.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has had it’s stuggles for sure. Especially navigating single motherhood while trying work enough as a pilates instructor to keep my family financially afloat. In the beginning, I took any pilates job offered to me and worked for meager wages just to get my footing in the industry but I was confident that I could work my way up to making more intentional choices that would pay consistently and allow me to grow. The biggest challenges were mostly internal. Sometimes I went through periods of doubt that I was doing the right thing by choosing a career of passion that could be inconsistent at times and wondering if I should go back to a stable 9-5 job. But I did plenty of reflection and manifesting and believed in myself. I knew that I would need to go through these struggles to build the practice and the life I wanted.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bene Pilates?
My business is a Latina owned, small boutique Pilates studio in south Austin (where I grew up) that offers private one on one pilates sessions or private duet sessions. For each person that seeks out my service, I offer an initial assessment which includes observing their movement patterns and getting to know their health and personal goals so that they can get the most from their sessions with me. I then customize a plan that allows them to move towards those goals with each session building upon the last one. I’m known mostly for having a calming and intentional tone during sessions which gives my clients the confidence to connect with their body and move with intention. I think what I am most proud of brand wise is how Bene Pilates came about even through hard ships and big life changes. Bene Pilates represents resilience in an ever changing environment. It shows that if you stay committed to your practice, your goals, and your passion, you can carve your own path and it will lead you to great places! What I want most for readers to know about my brand is that I feel strongly about what I do and truly enjoy empowering others to feel good in their body. I believe that Pilates is for every BODY. You do not have to be in perfect shape, or of a certain age to start. Come as you are and simply take the first step. Bene Pilates ensures a positive movement experience. My clients leave every session feeling strong and accomplished. Sessions can be done in person or remotely.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I am currently reading The Daily Stoic which allows me to reflect on my life as a whole and I incorporate pieces of it in my daily routine as a mom, a teacher, a friend, and a student. I also listen to and observe pilates instructors with years of experience so that I am always learning. I want to bring my best efforts and knowledge to my clients. I look forward to the road ahead and working with people who choose to make themselves a priority. I’m grateful to have a place in that journey.
